McCaffrey was a limited practice participant Thursday and Friday, which was enough for him to gain clearance to suit up in Week 9. He was hampered by a left hamstring injury during the 49ers' last game in Week 7 in Atlanta, when he handled a season-low 52 percent snap share but still notched 100 yards from scrimmage and a rushing TD on 13 touches.

McCaffrey was hampered by a left hamstring injury during the 49ers' last game, a Week 7 loss in Atlanta. Even with the benefit of a Week 8 bye, he didn't practice Wednesday, after which he touched on the health concern. "I had no idea (it was a hamstring injury)," he told Vic Tafur and Matt Barrows of The Athletic. "It wasn't too bad. Having the bye week was awesome. But now I feel great." Thursday's practice report will reveal how much work McCaffrey was able to handle.

Three key vets are not taking part in the first practice out of the bye Wednesday as McCaffrey, Mike Evans (Achilles/ribs) and Deebo Samuel (hamstring) are all sidelined for this session. McCaffrey has been dealing with a hamstring issue since the Week 7 game in Atlanta. Coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday that McCaffrey is "not going today but hopefully a chance [Thursday]." The next few days of practice will be telling for McCaffrey's status going into Sunday's game against the Raiders.
