The Panthers waived Metayer on Monday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
Metayer signed with the Panthers in late July. The undrafted free agent out of Arizona State initially joined the Steelers after the draft before being waived in early June. The tight end's longshot 53-man roster bid will come to an early conclusion, as the team utilized his spot to sign guard Joshua Gray in a corresponding move.

The Panthers signed Metayer to a contract Friday, Darin Gantt of the team's official site reports.
Metayer will take the spot on the 90-man roster vacated by rookie third-round wide receiver Chris Brazzell (knee), who was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Metayer initially signed with the Steelers in late April as an undrafted free agent before being waived by Pittsburgh in early June. He'll audition for the Panthers for the next month, and while he's a longshot to make the 53-man roster, Metayer could get an invite to the practice squad if he impresses the coaching staff enough in training camp and preseason games.

“Value” is market slot minus our slot: positive means the market lets you draft him later than our blend ranks him. Ranks blend our projection model with ADP at backtested weights, the receipts are on methodology.
Trade value: what to ask for Chamon
Our board has Chamon Metayer at TE155, #843 overall in PPR, and the market leaves him undrafted. The market prices him about 129 picks higher than we do, so in a trade ask for more than his slot suggests: a fair return is a player the market ranks near #843, and you are giving up someone our model values as a #843. He projects to 21.9 points (floor -55.3, ceiling 57.6).
TEs in that range on our board right now: Connor Hulstein (#840, NYJ), Rohan Jones (#841, LAR), Lance Mason (#842, PIT), Tyler Moore (#844, IND), Johnny Pascuzzi (#845, LAC), Carsen Ryan (#846, CLE).
