Thursday Night Football Best Bets, Week 5: Buccaneers at Cowboys, the 76% Pick, Every Player Line and the Anytime Touchdown Board
By Verdexed Analytics

The 0-4 team with the undrafted rookie quarterback walks into Dallas on a short week to face an offence that just scored 28 points in a half. That is the whole sentence, and the market has priced it: Cowboys -9.5, -455 on the money line, total 47.5. The model agrees on the winner and is slightly less sure than the book about it, 76% to the market's 79%, which is why the real work in this piece is below the headline: every player line the model prices, the anytime-touchdown board with Javonte Williams at the top, the three tickets, and the one honest case for the Buccaneers at +350. Numbers are Monday night's, with the model's injury read as of 7 PM ET; the model rebuilds every morning and the NFL card for Thursday freezes on Wednesday at 11 AM ET at that morning's line, so the live version is on the Model Cards page.
The game
| Game | Kickoff (ET) | Venue | Line and total | Implied (TB / DAL) | Call | Our number | Model alone | Market |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TB at DAL | 8:15 PM Thu, Prime Video | AT&T Stadium, roof | DAL -9.5, 47.5 | 19.0 / 28.5 | LockDAL | DAL 76% | DAL 68% | DAL 79% |
Lock is the card's own tier for a pick at 65% or better; it is a statement about how often the model expects to be right, not about the price. Our number is the model's win probability blended with the market, the one the record grades; model alone is the number before the blend. Both teams played Sunday, so both are on four days' rest; the roof makes weather a non-factor; and the officiating crew had not been assigned when this was written (the game page carries the crew flag once it is).
Why Dallas
Dallas Cowboys over Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 76%, -455. The model's drivers, in order: offence (+6.2 points), quarterback (+4.0), point margin (+3.7), and the injury line (+2.6) because Tampa Bay is without Jalen McMillan. The only feature leaning Tampa is third downs (-1.1). Dallas is 2-2 and +2.5 a game after Sunday's 34-30 comeback in Houston, in which Dak Prescott threw for 335 yards, CeeDee Lamb caught 17 passes for 189 yards and the winning score on 21 targets, and Javonte Williams ran in three touchdowns on three straight second-half possessions. Prescott has eight touchdown passes against one interception. Lamb has three straight 100-yard games and a 37-498-4 line through four weeks. Williams has six touchdowns in four games.
Tampa Bay is 0-4 and -5.0 a game, and the number worth knowing is that the Bucs have not been blown out: Sunday's loss to Green Bay was 17-14 with Jalon Daniels, the undrafted rookie from Kansas, making his first NFL start in place of Baker Mayfield (thumb, out until around November by the latest reporting). Daniels threw for 148 yards with two interceptions and three sacks, ran well, and threw his first career touchdown to Kenny Gainwell. He gets a short week to prepare for his second start, which is the quarterback feature doing its work. Bucky Irving was not targeted once in that game. McMillan is on injured reserve with a PCL sprain, Antoine Winfield Jr. is out with a rib injury, Ko Kieft and Benjamin Morrison are out, and Josiah Trotter and SirVocea Dennis are questionable.
Dallas is not whole either. Tyler Smith, the three-time Pro Bowl left guard, has missed every game after September thumb surgery and is aiming to come off injured reserve for this one; DeMarvion Overshown and Cobie Durant are out; Jalen Thompson and Jonathan Bullard are on injured reserve; Drew Shelton is questionable at tackle. Joey Porter Jr. made his Cowboys debut on Sunday on a snap count after the trade from Pittsburgh, and Malik Hooker is back from the forearm fracture. The last three meetings went 2-1 to Tampa, the last of them in December 2024, which is long enough ago to be trivia.
The honest case for Tampa Bay at +350. It is the price. The market makes the Bucs 21%; the model alone makes them 32% and the blended number 24%. On a three-point gap in Tampa's favour the model would call the underdog the value side if this piece were about value. It is not, and 24% is still 24%: the pick is Dallas, and if you want the Bucs you are betting that an undrafted rookie's second start on four days' rest goes better than his first, in a building where the Cowboys have an implied total of 28.5.
Every player line the model prices
The projection is the model's median from each player's own game logs and this week's role; the lines are the half-point lines where our distribution gives that side 57%, so the over is a play at the first line or lower and the under at the second line or higher, at -120 or better. Target marks the plays we would build around, Lean the rest, and Fade the two unders the model actually likes.

Three notes on the table. Prescott's 335 is the model's number, not a copy of Sunday's: the game-log projection sits where it does because Dallas throws a lot, Tampa's secondary is missing Winfield, and Lamb's role is what it is. Daniels at 193.8 passing with 46.8 rushing is a rookie being asked to run, and the rushing line (33.5 or lower for the over) is the quieter of the two plays on him. And Ferguson is the touchdown-or-bust tight end the numbers describe: 12 catches for 83 yards through four weeks but three scores, which is why he is fourth on the touchdown board below despite a 29-yard projection.
The props card, at the model's 65% lines
The Model Card picks its props at the line where the over reaches 65%, one per player, two per game, and the NFL props on the cards have hit 5 of 7 so far. These are the lines the card would take from Monday night's projections; the card itself freezes Wednesday at 11 AM ET.
| Player | Call | Team | Prop | Our line | Our number |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Javonte Williams | Target | DAL | Over 59.5 rushing yards | 59.5 | 66% |

Anytime touchdown
Our probability comes from each player's expected rushing and receiving touchdowns in this game, with the team's touchdowns scaled to its implied total so the Cowboys' players cannot add up to more scoring than a 28.5-point team produces. Fair is the price that probability deserves; Take at is the worst price that still leaves an edge after a book's margin. The list is the model's, unedited.
| Player | Call | Team | Expected TDs | Our number | Fair | Take at |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Javonte Williams | Target | DAL | 1.10 | 67% | -200 | -173 |
| CeeDee Lamb | Lean | DAL | 0.54 | 42% | +140 | +152 |
| Jalon Daniels | Lean | TB | 0.43 | 35% | +186 | +201 |
| Jake Ferguson | Lean | DAL | 0.42 | 34% | +192 | +207 |
| Bucky Irving | Lean | TB | 0.32 | 27% | +265 | +284 |
| Emeka Egbuka | Lean | TB | 0.25 | 22% | +352 | +376 |
| Ted Hurst III | Lean | TB | 0.24 | 21% | +369 | +393 |
| George Pickens | Lean | DAL | 0.22 | 20% | +406 | +433 |
| Chris Godwin Jr. | Pass | TB | 0.19 | 17% | +478 | +508 |
| Tyler Goodson | Pass | DAL | 0.18 | 16% | +555 | +589 |
| Kenny Gainwell | Pass | TB | 0.15 | 14% | +618 | +656 |
| Cade Otton | Pass | TB | 0.13 | 12% | +720 | +763 |
| Ryan Flournoy | Pass | DAL | 0.13 | 12% | +720 | +763 |
| Dak Prescott | Pass | DAL | 0.08 | 8% | +1201 | +1269 |
Williams at 67% is the second-highest anytime number on the whole Week 5 board behind Jahmyr Gibbs, and it is built on volume and the goal line, not on Sunday's hat-trick. Daniels at 35% is the rookie's legs; a designed run at the goal line is the Bucs' most likely touchdown after Irving's. George Pickens is still looking for his first touchdown of the season on 28 targets, and the model has him at one in five.
Three tickets
The same three the Model Cards build: the game at the market's price, the props at fair odds (props carry no market price in our data, so take the legs at -120 or better), and the best of both. Our probability is the product of the legs; the fair price is what that probability deserves. A Thursday card is one leg, so the first row is simply the pick.
| Ticket | Call | Legs | Our probability | Fair price | What the book pays |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| The card | Lockas a pick, not as a price | DAL -455 | 76% | -310 | -455 |
| Props, three legs | Target at -120 or better | Williams over 59.5 rushing, Lamb over 4.5 receptions, Daniels over 168.5 passing | 29% | +247 | the sum of your three prices |
| Best of both | Lean | DAL to win, Williams over 59.5 rushing, Lamb over 4.5 receptions | 33% | +200 | the game at market, the props at your prices |
| The Dallas passing game, props only | Lean | Prescott over 291.5 passing, Williams over 59.5 rushing, Lamb over 4.5 receptions | 29% | +247 | the sum of your three prices |
Two construction rules we hold to, both learned the hard way. Never pair a favourite's money line with its own quarterback's passing over: a team that wins by 17 runs the clock in the fourth quarter, and the two legs fight each other, which is why Prescott's passing over sits on the props-only ticket and not with Dallas to win. And no game side goes on a props ticket. The first row is there because it is what the card will log; at -455 the book is asking you to risk 4.55 units to win one on a 76% chance, and our number says that price is worth -310. Lock describes the pick. It does not describe the price.
The week so far
| Measure | NFL, 2026 regular season |
|---|---|
| Graded picks | 38-24 (61.3%), Brier 0.227 |
| Picks at 70% or better | 10-4 (71.4%) |
| Week 4 through Sunday | 10-5, with Monday night (Atlanta at New Orleans) still to grade |
| Cards graded | 2, legs 5-3, -1.18 units flat |
| Props on the cards | 5-2 (71%) |
Last Thursday's card was Pittsburgh -148 at Cleveland, and the Browns won 27-24, so the one-leg Thursday card is 0-1. Sunday's card went 5-2 (Baltimore, Minnesota, Seattle, Chicago and San Francisco hit; Buffalo and Detroit missed) with the props 3-2, Kenneth Walker's 177 rushing yards the standout. The live record, the hit rate by confidence band and every voided pick with its reason are on the NFL accuracy page; every card, ledger and graded ticket is on the Model Cards page. Units are a flat one unit on every game leg at the card's frozen price.
