  • Allen stopped 39 of 44 shots in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Avalanche.

This was a tough assignment for Allen, as he had to handle the second half of a road back-to-back against a tough offense. The 36-year-old did a fair job, but the Avalanche pulled away in the third period. Allen is down to 5-3-0 with a 3.11 GAA and an .886 save percentage across eight starts. His time as the Devils' starter is over with Connor Hellebuyck poised to take the reins moving forward. Expect Allen to see usage in line with a traditional backup.

  • Allen will get the starting nod Wednesday on the road versus the Avalanche, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports.

Allen will handle the second half of the back-to-back after Connor Hellebuyck made his Devils debut in a win over the Stars on Tuesday. With the arrival of Hellebuyck, Allen's playing time is poised to decline significantly. He has gone 5-2-0 with a 2.84 GAA and an .886 save percentage over seven games this season.

  • Allen made 12 saves Saturday in a 3-1 win over the Kings.

The only goal came on a bang-bang play in the second when Scott Laughton took a quick pass from behind the goal line and wired a shot from the left hash marks. Allen will be the go-to guy until newcomer Connor Hellebuyck (not injury related) is ready to play. Allen is 5-2-0 with a 2.84 GAA and .886 save percentage. His GSAx (goals saved above expected) was -3.7 heading into Saturday's game, but his numbers should improve in a backup role.

  • Allen will protect the home net against the Kings on Saturday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.

Allen is coming off a 31-save performance in Tuesday's 4-3 win over Colorado. He has a 4-2-0 record, a 3.15 GAA and an .883 save percentage in six appearances this season. Remi Poirier will serve as Allen's backup, as Connor Hellebuyck (not injury related) isn't available to play yet. Los Angeles (2-4-2) is tied for 27th in the league with 2.50 goals per game this campaign.

  • Allen made 31 saves in a 4-3 win over Colorado on Tuesday. It was his second straight start.

It was a big, yet bizarre night for Allen. He was honored prior to the game for playing in 500 NHL games, and he was especially sharp in the third period when he made 13 saves. The game never really felt in doubt until the very end, when the Avs suddenly poured it on over the last four minutes of the game and potted two goals to make it seem close. Allen went toe-to-toe with Colorado's stars and emerged victorious. He's 4-2-0 with three wins in his last four starts, but he has also allowed four or more goals in half of his six starts. Allen's 3.15 GAA and .883 save percentage both sit below the current NHL averages (2.91 GAA and .892 save percentage). It's still early, and he did produce an above-average performance last season.

  • Allen will draw the home start in Tuesday's clash against the Avalanche, per Mike Morreale of NHL.com.

Allen will be honored ahead of Tuesday's game for his recent milestone of playing in 500 NHL regular-season games. The 36-year-old netminder is off to a solid start to the new season, compiling a 3-2-0 record, 3.18 GAA and .876 save percentage. While his save percentage leaves room for improvement, he's won two of his last three appearances. He'll face a tough test in his big night against the Avalanche on Tuesday, however, making him a difficult fantasy option to trust.
