Shesterkin (lower body) was placed on long-term injured reserve by the Rangers on Sunday, per Mollie Walker of the New York Post.
As expected, Shesterkin will move to LTIR less than 24 hours after he was ruled out for the season with a lower-body injury. It's a devastating setback for the 30-year-old netminder and the Rangers' organization, as Shesterkin was dialed in to begin the new season, compiling a 3-1-0 record, a 1.79 GAA and a .927 save percentage across five appearances. He'll set his sights on recovering before the start of the 2027-28 regular season. In the meantime, Dylan Garand is expected to be the lead option between the pipes, at least until Joonas Korpisalo (lower body) is ready to return.

Shesterkin (lower body) will be out for the remainder of the 2026-27 season, according to Tom Gulitti of NHL.com on Saturday. Shesterkin was placed on injured reserve Saturday, per the NHL media site.
Shesterkin appeared to injure his right leg in Friday's 3-1 loss to Washington. He posted a 3-1-0 record with a 1.79 GAA and a .927 save percentage in five appearances this campaign. Joonas Korpisalo (lower body) is still at least four weeks from returning, so the Rangers will lean on Dylan Garand and Spencer Martin (lower body), who is expected to be recalled from AHL Hartford.

Shesterkin (lower body) won't return to Friday's game versus the Capitals.
Shesterkin was injured as his right leg got jammed into the post as he made his way back to the crease on a scrambled play in the Rangers' zone. The 30-year-old goalie can be considered day-to-day for now, but he put no weight on his leg as he exited the ice, which doesn't bode well. If he misses time, the Rangers are in a pickle since both Joonas Korpisalo (lower body) and Spencer Martin (lower body) are also sidelined. Expect Dylan Garand to get a heavy run of starts if Shesterkin misses time, though the Rangers could also pursue the trade route to help their depth.

Shesterkin will start Friday's road game against Washington, Mollie Walker of the New York Post reports.
After an Opening Night loss in Boston, Shesterkin has bounced back with wins in each of his last three starts, posting a 1.67 GAA and .932 save percentage during those victories. Across two starts against the Capitals last year, he went 2-0-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .925 save percentage.

Shesterkin stopped 17 of 19 shots in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Islanders.
Shesterkin was perfect in the first period before the Islanders struck twice in a span of 1:56 early in the second, with Bo Horvat scoring on the power play and Calum Ritchie tying the contest at 2-2. Shesterkin shut the door from there, stopping all seven shots he faced in the third while the Rangers pulled away. He finished with 17 saves to earn his third consecutive win, and the Rangers have won their last four contests since dropping the season opener against Boston on Sept. 29. In his four appearances, Shesterkin has stopped 89 of the 96 shots he's faced, good for a .927 save percentage.
