The Red Wings suspended Larkin without pay Thursday as a result of his decision to no longer play for the team.
Larkin's desire to be traded has been known since the summer, but he nevertheless reported for training camp and initially played for the Red Wings. He had two goals and six points in 10 appearances in 2026-27 before the suspension, including a key goal in Detroit's 4-3 shootout win over Edmonton on Monday. The victory might go down as Larkin's final game as a member of the Red Wings, who will continue to look for a trade involving the 30-year-old forward.

Larkin (not injury related) is not expected to play until he is traded away from the Red Wings, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports Thursday.
After 818 regular-season outings across 12 seasons with the Red Wings, it appears that Larkin has suited up for Detroit for the last time. The 30-year-old center is expected to be traded in the near future after he recently made his 12-team trade list public. He initially submitted a trade request in June, but he ultimately remained with the Red Wings to start the new season, where he's compiled two goals, six points and 32 shots on net across 10 appearances. It remains to be seen which of the 12 teams on his trade list are pursuing the veteran center, but he can provide high-level two-way play up the center of the ice for the team that ultimately lands him. He's a strong player to stash in fantasy until his seemingly inevitable trade away from Detroit occurs.

Larkin (undisclosed) will not play in Thursday's home clash against the Blackhawks, per Max Bultman of The Athletic.
Head coach Todd McLellan said that interim general manager Shawn Horcroff will address the reason regarding Larkin's absence. It appears that more news is to come regarding the 30-year-old center, as he's been vocal about wanting to be traded. Larkin recently expanded his 10-team trade list to 12, and with many contenders on that list wanting to lock down their center depth ahead of making a postseason run, the 12-year NHL veteran is a clear fit at the position. However, his absence isn't confirmed to be related to a potential trade, so expectations should be tempered for the time being. For now, he will miss Thursday's game against Chicago, and if he's still with the Red Wings on Saturday, he could have a chance to play against the Blues.

Larkin scored a goal on four shots in Monday's 4-3 shootout win over the Oilers.
Larkin hadn't scored since his season debut Oct. 6 versus the Senators, a span of eight games without a goal. He has two tallies, four assists, 32 shots on net and a plus-3 rating over 10 appearances. Larkin remains heavily involved in a top-six role and on the power play, and he'll look to stay productive to maintain his appeal as the Red Wings continue to search for a trade partner.

Larkin registered two power-play assists and six shots on goal in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout loss to the Kraken.
Larkin has a pair of multi-point efforts and has totaled a goal and four assists over seven games this season. He's added 20 shots on net and an even plus-minus rating. Reports broke Tuesday that Larkin has expanded his list of preferred trade destinations to 10 teams, but no deal seems imminent. As such, expect Larkin to continue handling top-six minutes and power-play time for the Red Wings until he's on the brink of getting dealt.

Larkin scored an even-strength goal and added a power-play assist in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Senators.
After a turbulent offseason that featured a public trade request and a delayed start to the campaign due to an upper-body injury, Larkin returned to the lineup Tuesday. He wasted no time demonstrating his importance to the Red Wings. The 30-year-old center gave his team a 2-1 lead midway through the first period by completing a tic-tac-toe sequence with Viktor Arvidsson and Alex DeBrincat. Arvidsson banged home a Larkin rebound for his own marker early in the second. Detroit may give Larkin a chance to showcase his trade value before re-engaging talks with other clubs, so expect him to remain in prominent spots in the lineup.
