Latest news
Washington exercised the third-year team option on Riley on Sunday, Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.com reports.
Riley, the 21st pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, has averaged 9.8 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 0.7 blocks in 21.1 minutes over 78 regular-season appearances. After playing in 74 contests (18 starts) in 2025-26, Riley has fallen out of the rotation in 2026-27, playing just 2.8 minutes per game. Still, the Wizards like his potential for development as depth on the wing behind AJ Dybantsa, Kyshawn George and Bilal Coulibaly.

Riley accumulated two points (1-1 FG) in four minutes during Monday's 110-103 loss to Charlotte.
Riley made his lone field-goal attempt but otherwise struggled to make an impact during his brief appearance. The second-year forward has played just 10 combined minutes across three appearances this season, leaving him outside Washington's regular rotation. Riley can be left on fantasy waiver wires in most formats.

Riley (coach's decision) did not play in Wednesday's 128-116 win over Milwaukee.
Washington opened its season without using the young wing, leaving Riley's immediate place in the rotation uncertain. He'll need to earn additional opportunities before becoming a dependable fantasy contributor.

Riley notched 15 points (3-7 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 8-8 FT), four rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block in 24 minutes during Saturday's 114-108 preseason win over the Pistons in overtime.
Riley didn't deliver his most efficient performance from the field. However, he got to the charity stripe often and didn't miss an attempt en route to a team-high-tying 15 points. The second-year forward also led the second unit in assists. Riley figures to compete with Khris Middleton (rest) and Justin Champagnie for playing time off the bench to begin the regular season.

Riley finished with two points (1-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt), four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 19 minutes during Thursday's 111-109 preseason victory over New York.
Riley struggled to generate much offense but connected on a go-ahead floater early in the fourth quarter that helped Washington complete its comeback. The young forward should have opportunities to demonstrate his scoring potential throughout the preseason, though he faces considerable competition for regular-season minutes.

Riley has more competition for playing time with the Wizards in 2026-27.
Riley will suit up for a new-look Washington squad this year, one that doesn't closely resemble the 2025-26 late-season bunch nearly at all. All of Trae Young (quad), Anthony Davis (finger), AJ Dybantsa, Kyshawn George and Alex Sarr (foot) weren't part of the team's lineup to close last season but are set to make up the starting five for 2026-27, likely leaving Riley to contend with Khris Middleton and Bilal Coulibaly for minutes in the second unit.
