Richards totaled nine points (2-2 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 11 rebounds and three assists in 18 minutes during Friday's 136-115 preseason loss to the Magic.
Richards continues to stake his claim for the backup center position, falling one point short of a double-double. He has put together a serviceable preseason, particularly on the glass. There isn't a lot of competition when it comes to backup minutes, meaning Richards could flirt with 15-17 minutes per game. Anyone in deeper formats could consider him with a late-round pick when in need of rebounds.

Richards won't start Friday's preseason game against the Magic, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Richards will slide to the second unit after starting Miami's past two games. The Heat will go with a starting five of Davion Mitchell, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Bobby Portis and Nikola Jovic in the absences of Giannis Antetokounmpo (rest) and Bam Adebayo (groin).

Richards produced 11 points (4-5 FG, 3-5 FT), five rebounds and one block over 16 minutes in Wednesday's 144-128 preseason victory against Brooklyn.
With Bam Adebayo sidelined, Richards drew the start at center and converted four of his five field-goal attempts. He also collected two offensive rebounds but committed three turnovers during his brief appearance. Richards has an opportunity to establish himself as a reliable interior option for Miami, although his playing time is expected to be more limited when Adebayo is available.

Richards will start in Saturday's preseason game against the Timberwolves, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Richards will get the start with Bam Adebayo (rest) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (rest) taking the night off. There should also be additional minutes available for Bobby Portis.

Richards finished with five points (2-3 FG, 1-2 FT), nine rebounds, one steal and one block in 15 minutes during Thursday's 128-118 preseason victory over New Orleans.
Richards made his presence felt on the glass, collecting nine rebounds despite playing fewer than 15 minutes. The veteran center also contributed defensively with a steal and a block, providing Miami with productive frontcourt minutes. With Bam Adebayo and Giannis Antetokounmpo occupying prominent roles, Richards figures to serve primarily as a reserve big man, limiting his fantasy appeal outside deeper formats.

Richards agreed to a one-year deal with the Heat on Thursday, per Shams Charania of ESPN.
Miami fortifies its center depth with the move. Over 20 regular-season appearances for the Bulls in 2025-26, Richards averaged 9.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 22.4 minutes per game while shooting 52.3 percent from the field following a trade from Phoenix. The big man is likely to settle for a lesser role in his new digs, but he has a chance to serve as the No. 2 center behind Bam Adebayo.
