Gardner is in danger of missing his fourth contest of the 2026-27 campaign. However, he has logged three minutes or less in his four regular-season appearances, so his absence wouldn't have much of an effect on the rotation.

Gardner recorded 11 points (3-6 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), four rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block in 15 minutes during Thursday's 128-118 preseason victory over New Orleans.
Gardner delivered one of Miami's more impressive all-around performances, connecting on three triples while contributing defensively and committing no turnovers. The versatile forward made a strong case for additional preseason opportunities, though he still faces an uphill battle to secure consistent regular-season minutes in a deep Heat rotation.

Gardner said Monday that he's "back now" and "ready to get going" after missing the Las Vegas Summer League with an ankle injury, Ricardo Urrusuno of Lemon City Live reports.
Gardner also said that he spent time in Miami recovering this offseason, and he appears to be at full strength ahead of Saturday's preseason opener against Toronto. The 25-year-old is set to compete for a spot in Miami's rotation this season.

Gardner's Summer League is over because of an ankle sprain he suffered in Friday's California Classic opener in San Francisco against the Spurs. The swingman is missing out on valuable reps as he competes for a rotation spot with the Heat, but he does have plenty of time to recuperate for training camp in the fall.
