OUT

Out · expected back around Nov 20

Nurkic is progressing in his recovery, but the two-week re-evaluation timeline indicates he remains some distance from returning to game action. His absence should continue to create opportunities in Utah's frontcourt, with Jaxson Hayes and Mo Bamba among the players positioned to benefit from additional playing time. Nurkic's next evaluation will provide a clearer picture of his potential return date.

Latest news

  • Nurkic (toe) has begun participating in on-court activities as he continues recovering from a right foot injury sustained during an Oct. 4 preseason game against Denver. He will be re-evaluated in two weeks, the Jazz announced Friday.

  • Nurkic (foot) is out for Wednesday's game against the Pelicans.

Nurkic has been a spectator to begin the season, and he's still not ready for game action due to a foot injury. The veteran big man should be considered week-to-week until the Jazz update his recovery, so Jaxson Hayes is expected to remain the team's primary center going forward.

  • Nurkic will miss at least the next four weeks due to a partial plantar plate tear of the second toe on his right foot, Chris Haynes of NBA TV reports.

Nurkic will begin the 2026-27 season on the sidelines, and given the tricky nature of foot injuries for big men, it wouldn't be shocking to see his absence extend beyond this initial four-week window. Jaren Jackson will likely spend more time at center while Nurkic is out, and there will be more minutes available for Jaxson Hayes and Mo Bamba.

  • Nurkic (foot) is listed as out for Tuesday's preseason game against Denver.

Nurkic is dealing with a foot issue, so he will miss Utah's second preseason game on the schedule. With Kyle Filipowski (back) also sidelined, Jaxson Hayes, Mo Bamba and Jonas Aidoo should handle the bulk of the minutes at the center position.

  • Nurkic didn't participate in Monday's practice due to a right foot injury, Shreyas Laddha of The Salt Lake Tribune reports.

Nurkic logged 11 minutes in Sunday's preseason-opening win over Denver, posting four points (1-5 FG, 2-2 FT, 0-2 3Pt), five rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block. The big man can be considered questionable for Tuesday's preseason rematch against Denver until the Jazz offer an update on his status.

  • Nurkic totaled four points (1-5 FG, 2-2 FT, 0-2 3Pt), five rebounds, four assists, one steal and one block in 11 minutes during Sunday's 109-97 preseason win over the Nuggets.

Nurkic was given the starting nod Sunday and yet played fewer minutes than newly acquired Jaxson Hayes, who ended with 19 minutes off the bench. All signs point to Nurkic being the starting center come Opening Night, putting him on the radar as a potential top-100 candidate. Although his role may not be reflective of what might be considered that of a typical starter, his ability to put up numbers across the board should lend itself to multiple builds. Considering him as a third center in standard leagues feels relatively safe.
