Strawther suffered the injury in Wednesday's preseason game against the Clippers. • Strawther (knee) was diagnosed with a left knee sprain Friday and will be re-evaluated in six weeks, Vinny Benedetto of The Denver Gazette reports.

Strawther suffered the injury in Wednesday's preseason game against the Clippers. The 24-year-old has appeared in 172 regular-season games for the Nuggets since entering the league in 2023, averaging 7.1 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists over 16.2 minutes per contest. He was in line to compete for an expanded role during the 2026-27 campaign. While that may be the case once Strawther is cleared to suit up, Tyus Jones and potentially Ryan Nembhard are candidates to receive more minutes in the interim.

  • Strawther (knee) will undergo an MRI on Thursday morning, Katy Winge of Altitude Sports reports.

Strawther exited to the locker room in the third quarter of Wednesday's preseason loss to the Clippers after his left knee bent awkwardly following contact while handling the ball. "All you can do is hope for the best," said Nuggets head coach David Adelman. An extended absence for Strawther would test Denver's depth on the wing, with Spencer Jones (hamstring) not yet cleared for contact. Strawther finished Wednesday's game with 11 points (4-9 FG, 3-7 3Pt) and two rebounds in 18 minutes.

  • Strawther (knee) exited to the locker room in the third quarter of Wednesday's preseason game against the Clippers and will not return, Law Murray of The Athletic reports.

Strawther's left knee bent awkwardly, leaving him in considerable pain and forcing an early exit to the locker room. An update on the 24-year-old's status could come after the game or in the coming days, but an extended absence would test the Nuggets' depth on the wing with Spencer Jones (hamstring) not yet cleared for contact.

  • Strawther registered 15 points (4-7 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, three assists and a steal across 18 minutes in Tuesday's 117-106 preseason win over the Jazz.

Strawther had a solid night beyond the arc in Denver's first preseason victory. The Gonzaga product enters his fourth season with the Nuggets in a crowded situation at his position following the addition of DeMar DeRozan. While youth is certainly on Strawther's side, a breakout campaign where he finally averages 10 or more points per game seems less likely.

  • Strawther recorded 14 points (6-13 FG, 1-2 FT, 1-6 3Pt), three rebounds and one assist in 20 minutes during Sunday's preseason loss to the Jazz.

Despite coming off the bench, Strawther led the Nuggets with 14 points, while also logging a team-high 20 minutes. With Jamal Murray unavailable, Strawther made the most of his opportunity, as he pushed for more playing time on a team that needs offensive production. Although he has flashed some scoring upside throughout his career, Strawther has been mostly disappointing to this point. There is no indication he will see increased minutes this season, which makes him nothing more than a deeper-league target. However, if he is put in a position where he is tasked with more offensive responsibility, he could be worth consideration as a short-term flier.

  • Strawther could play an expanded role for the Nuggets in 2026-27 after Peyton Watson was traded to the Cavaliers.

Strawther is still ticketed for a bench role this season, even with Watson now out of the picture, but his playing time could be more consistent after finishing last postseason outside the rotation. The sharpshooter averaged 7.2 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.0 three-pointers in 15.1 minutes per game over 57 regular-season appearances in 2025-26.
