Week 7 Start/Sit: Start Kenneth Walker III and C.J. Stroud, Sit Patrick Mahomes, Cam Skattebo and RJ Harvey

Four teams are on bye in Week 7, and the usage from Week 6 settles most of the hard lineup calls. Kenneth Walker III ran 19 times for 128 yards and two touchdowns against the Chargers and has reclaimed the NFL rushing lead with 665 yards. Cam Skattebo, by contrast, played six snaps and did not touch the ball in the Giants' 34-27 loss to New Orleans. Those two lines frame a week where trusting role over reputation is the right approach.

This piece covers the Sunday and Monday games. Thursday's Patriots at Bears matchup has its own preview, and the Week 7 waiver wire and bye planner are already posted, so the focus here is on players already on rosters.

The Week 7 slate

The Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers and Washington Commanders are off. The table below lists the Sunday and Monday games with their scheduled kickoffs (Eastern), which matter for managers juggling late-game pivots.

GameDayKickoff (ET)
Steelers at Saints (Paris)Sunday9:30 a.m.
49ers at FalconsSunday1:00 p.m.
Bengals at RavensSunday1:00 p.m.
Browns at TitansSunday1:00 p.m.

Dolphins at JetsSunday1:00 p.m.
Giants at TexansSunday1:00 p.m.

Rams at RaidersSunday4:25 p.m.
Packers at LionsSunday4:25 p.m.
Chiefs at SeahawksSunday8:20 p.m.

The early Paris kickoff is the one to circle. Anyone starting Steelers or Saints needs final inactives by early Sunday morning, so plan pivots before the weekend.

Starts

Kenneth Walker III, RB, Chiefs at Seahawks. He has four 100-yard games this season and eight total touchdowns, and he is the clear lead back in Andy Reid's offense. Walker gets a Sunday night return to Seattle, where the Seahawks are coming off a 17-14 overtime loss in Denver. He is an RB1 regardless of matchup.

C.J. Stroud, QB, Texans vs. Giants. Stroud led a 34-31 win over Jacksonville in London, and the Giants have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks, per DraftKings Network. With four starting quarterbacks on bye, he is a confident QB1. Jaylin Noel has scored in back-to-back games and caught all four targets for 107 yards last week, which makes him a viable WR3 in the same matchup.

Woody Marks, RB, Texans vs. Giants. David Montgomery is week-to-week with a groin injury, and DeMeco Ryans said Marks would carry the load. Marks had 15 carries and three targets in London. Practice-squad call-up Jawhar Jordan took six carries, so the ceiling has a cap, but Marks is a solid RB2 if Montgomery sits.

Kyren Williams, RB, Rams at Raiders. Week 6 was frustrating: 10 carries for 50 yards, a season-low 13 touches, and nine carries for Blake Corum, who outscored him. Williams said afterward that the offense was inconsistent probably because he was not on the field. He still played roughly 72% of the snaps, and a Las Vegas matchup is softer than the Arizona front that has been strong against backs. Start him as an RB2 with a lower ceiling than his draft cost suggested.

Bijan Robinson, RB, Falcons vs. 49ers. Nine carries and two catches for minus-8 yards against Chicago looks alarming, but Atlanta trailed 31-7 in the fourth quarter and Robinson still played roughly three-quarters of the snaps. Game script, not role, explains the dud. He stays in lineups.

Derrick Henry, RB, Ravens vs. Bengals. Henry ran 17 times for 58 yards and lost a fourth-quarter fumble in a 13-10 loss at Cleveland. The volume is what matters, and it will remain heavy whether Lamar Jackson (ankle) returns or Tyler Huntley starts a third straight game. Henry is a low-end RB1. Jackson's status is the swing factor for the rest of this offense: Jesse Minter called him day-to-day and said Jackson could potentially practice this week.

Germie Bernard, WR, Steelers at Saints. Bernard caught 11 of 12 targets for 87 yards and the overtime winner at Tampa Bay, and he has a 28% target share over two full-time games, per Fantasy Life. The average depth of target is shallow, but with Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson out, the volume makes him a PPR WR3.

Sits

Patrick Mahomes, QB, Chiefs at Seahawks. The Chiefs are 5-0, but they are winning on the ground. DraftKings Network notes Mahomes has not topped 17 fantasy points since Week 2, and a road trip to Seattle with Walker carrying the offense does not change that profile. In one-quarterback leagues, Stroud or Tyler Shough against Pittsburgh offer a comparable floor.

Cam Skattebo, RB, Giants at Texans. Six snaps, zero touches. Skattebo has fumbled four times in his last five games, and he said after the game that he understood he was being punished. John Harbaugh denied a benching, but Tyrone Tracy Jr. led the backfield with six carries and scored twice, while Devin Singletary and Najee Harris each got four carries. Until Skattebo's role returns, he is a bench stash.

RJ Harvey, RB, Broncos at Cardinals. Harvey played 21 snaps (37%) against Seattle. He scored a short touchdown, but J.K. Dobbins has handled 20 opportunities in back-to-back games and remains the lead back. Tyler Badie's thumb injury offers a small bump for Harvey, not enough to make him a starter.

Jerry Jeudy, WR, Browns at Titans. CBS Sports notes Jeudy has scored 9.3 PPR points or fewer in five straight games. Even against a struggling Tennessee team, he is a bench option.

Thin-week decisions

Tanner McKee, QB, Eagles vs. Cowboys. McKee threw 45 times in a 25-14 loss to Carolina with Jalen Hurts on injured reserve. Volume like that makes him a desperation streamer in superflex and two-quarterback formats, but Philadelphia's offense is short-handed. Saquon Barkley (hamstring) has not practiced, and the Eagles reportedly see a realistic chance he plays Monday. DeVonta Smith is expected back from his hamstring injury and is a WR2 with McKee's volume.

Buccaneers pass catchers. Todd Bowles called it too early to tell whether Baker Mayfield (thumb) plays against Carolina, and said Tampa Bay should plan as if Jalon Daniels starts. Bucky Irving ran 19 times for only 46 yards against Pittsburgh but keeps the volume. Treat him as an RB2 and hold off on the receivers until Mayfield's status is clear.

Mike Evans, WR, 49ers at Falcons. Evans caught three passes for 94 yards before halftime Monday night and then missed the second half after aggravating his Achilles soreness. He has drawn at least a 26% target share in back-to-back games, per FantasyPros, so he is a WR2 if active. With Deebo Samuel already out, have a backup ready for the 1 p.m. window.

The Verdexed angle

The lines back up several of these calls. Seattle opened as a home favorite over unbeaten Kansas City, which suggests the market expects a lower-scoring, run-heavy game and supports the Walker-over-Mahomes split. Carolina is a 3.5-point favorite over Tampa Bay, with that edge reportedly shrinking if Mayfield is confirmed, so the Buccaneers' passing game carries more risk than reward. Baltimore is a short favorite over Cincinnati with Jackson's status unresolved. For the model's game-by-game view, see Verdexed's Week 7 picks and Verdexed's NFL predictions page.

What's next

Wednesday's practice reports will settle most of the open questions. Watch Jackson's participation level first, then Mayfield, Barkley, Evans and Montgomery. A full practice from Jackson pushes Baltimore's passing game back into lineups. A Mayfield return lifts the Tampa Bay receivers to flex range, and a Barkley return moves Dameon Pierce out of consideration. Set Paris-game lineups by Saturday night.
