Kenneth Walker III Runs for Two Scores as the Chiefs Beat the Chargers 22-6, Move to 5-0 and Send Los Angeles Into Its Bye at 0-6
By Verdexed NFL Desk

The Kansas City Chiefs stayed unbeaten on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium, beating the Los Angeles Chargers 22-6 to move to 5-0. Kenneth Walker III carried 19 times for 128 yards and two touchdowns, Patrick Mahomes completed 23 of 30 passes for 272 yards with no touchdowns and an interception, and Xavier Worthy led all receivers with seven catches for 73 yards in his first game as the clear top option with Rashee Rice out. The Chargers fell to 0-6 and head into their Week 7 bye without a touchdown in this one.
Kansas City outgained Los Angeles 422-259 and led 19-3 at halftime. Walker scored from 33 and 2 yards, Harrison Butker added three field goals (he also missed a field goal try and an extra point, per the AP recap), and the Chiefs' only second-half points came on a 30-yard Butker kick with 3:52 to play. Cameron Dicker accounted for all of the Chargers' scoring.
The box score
The game was sloppier than the final margin, but the production was concentrated in a few players, which is useful for fantasy purposes.
| Player | Team | Line |
|---|---|---|
| Patrick Mahomes | KC | 23 of 30, 272 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT |
| Kenneth Walker III | KC | 19 carries, 128 yards, 2 TD |
| Xavier Worthy | KC | 7 catches, 73 yards |
| Justin Herbert | LAC | 22 of 37, 204 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT |
| Omarion Hampton | LAC | 7 carries, 18 yards |
| Kimani Vidal | LAC | 7 carries, 21 yards |
| Quentin Johnston | LAC | 1 catch, 57 yards |
| Ladd McConkey | LAC | 1 catch, 17 yards (left with concussion) |
Travis Kelce added five catches for 53 yards per the AP, despite a first-quarter right ankle injury that briefly sent him out. Mahomes' interception came in the red zone in the first half. Mahomes reportedly also earned his 100th win as a starting quarterback.
Chiefs fantasy fallout
Walker is the story. He averaged 6.7 yards per carry, scored twice and handled the backfield on his own, which is the role Kansas City acquired him for. He is a weekly RB1 in an offense that keeps building leads, and that game script feeds his carry total. His backup, Emmett Johnson, is a handcuff with no standalone value while Walker is healthy.
Worthy delivered a usable PPR line rather than a ceiling game. He led the team in targets, catches and yards with Rice (hamstring) and Tyquan Thornton (ankle, injured reserve) out, and he flashed his range on a 33-yard catch. The concern is that Kansas City did not need to throw downfield late, so the volume never turned into a big afternoon. If Rice returns, Worthy drops back to a WR3; if Rice sits again, he stays in the WR2 conversation.
Mahomes threw for 272 yards on 30 attempts, an efficient line, but zero touchdown passes cap his fantasy day. Walker vulturing both scores is the trade-off of a balanced offense. He remains a QB1 because the efficiency is real, but managers should expect more weeks where the rushing attack finishes drives. Kelce is a TE1 as long as the ankle cooperates; Andy Reid said afterward he might be sore but did a nice job.
Chargers fantasy fallout
Los Angeles has now gone six games without a win, and Sunday showed why. Herbert threw his eighth interception of the season, which ESPN's recap noted leads the league, as Jack Cochrane picked him off and returned it 48 yards. On the final drive the Chargers reached the Kansas City 8-yard line, but Herbert was sacked twice on consecutive plays and the drive ended on downs. He was the team's leading rusher with 26 yards on five scrambles, which says everything about the run game.
Hampton is now a hold, not a start. Seven carries for 18 yards in a committee with Vidal (seven for 21) and Keaton Mitchell is not a fantasy role, and the line in front of him was again without left tackle Joe Alt (neck). Safety Derwin James (hamstring), cornerback Donte Jackson and edge rusher Bud Dupree were also inactive. McConkey played only the opening drives, caught a 17-yard pass and was ruled out with a concussion after his head hit the turf. With Tre' Harris (hamstring) also out, Johnston's single 57-yard catch was the passing game's biggest play.
Jim Harbaugh said after the game that the team will evaluate everything, especially on offense, and reporting framed that as including first-year offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. Any change over the bye would reshape how fantasy managers value every Chargers skill player.
The betting and Verdexed read
Kansas City closed as a favorite of roughly a touchdown or more, with a total in the low 40s, so a 16-point win covered and the 28 combined points stayed well under. That matches the shape the market expected: a rested Chiefs team against an injured, turnover-prone opponent. The question for Week 7 is how much of that holds on the road. Verdexed's model weighs injuries on both lines, Rice's availability and the travel to Seattle when it grades the next matchup; see Verdexed's NFL predictions page at /nfl/predictions and the slate breakdown at /blog/nfl-week-7-picks-2026.
The Chiefs have injuries of their own to track. Right tackle Jaylon Moore left with a concussion and Joshua Ezeudu replaced him, and Kansas City had already been without left tackle Josh Simmons (back). A patched line against a strong defense is the main risk to the offense.
What comes next
Kansas City visits the Seattle Seahawks, the defending Super Bowl champions, on Sunday Night Football on Oct. 25, a return to Seattle for Walker, then goes to Denver on Nov. 1. Rice's hamstring is the key practice-report item; Field Level Media reported he could be back for Week 7, but nothing is confirmed. Moore's progress through the concussion protocol matters for Mahomes' protection.
The Chargers are off in Week 7, alongside the Bills, Jaguars and Commanders, and return to host the Rams on Nov. 1. McConkey has two weeks to clear the protocol, and the bye gives Alt and James time to heal.
The takeaway
Start Walker and Mahomes with confidence in Seattle, keep Worthy in lineups only if Rice is ruled out, and treat Kelce as a TE1 unless the ankle shows up on the practice report. On the Chargers side, bench them all this week by default, hold McConkey through the concussion protocol, and use the bye to decide whether Hampton is still worth a roster spot in shallow leagues.
