Rams at +650 and Three Unbeatens: How the Super Bowl Market Reshuffled After Four Weeks

Four weeks in, the Super Bowl futures market has a new order at the top. The Los Angeles Rams are the betting favorite at around +650 after their 24-20 comeback win over Philadelphia, and the Buffalo Bills slid to second, between +700 and +750 depending on the book, after a 29-26 home loss to New England. Only three teams are still unbeaten: San Francisco, Kansas City and Minnesota. And this weekend, the two favorites play each other on Monday night while the unbeaten 49ers and Vikings both go on the road.

That makes Week 5 the first real stress test of the market's early-season opinions. Here is where the board stands, what has moved it, and which games can move it again.

The Board After Week 4

Prices below are drawn from the major books as reported after Week 4 (around Oct. 6-7). Numbers vary by sportsbook, and the ranges reflect that.

TeamRecordSuper Bowl price (approx.)Movement
Rams2-2+650Shortened slightly from +670
Bills3-1+700 to +750Lengthened after first loss
49ers4-0+850Shortened from +1100 after Week 2
Ravens3-1+850 to +900Before Lamar Jackson's ankle injury news
Chiefs4-0+900Shortened from +1200 after Week 2
Seahawkshosts SF in Week 5+900Holding near the top tier
Vikings4-0+2500Shortened from +3000

Six teams sit at +900 or shorter. That is a crowded top tier for early October, and it reflects how little separation the first month produced among the preseason contenders.

Why the Rams Moved to the Top

The Rams are just 2-2, which makes their spot at the top a statement about talent rather than record. They earned the bump by erasing a 10-point deficit in Philadelphia, with Kyren Williams scoring two touchdowns in the final four minutes, against an Eagles team that has since been hit by a wave of roster losses on the offensive line and in the backfield. The market rewarded the result and the resilience. Puka Nacua's return in that game, with a route share above 90% and roughly a quarter of the targets, also signaled that the Rams' passing game is close to full strength.

Buffalo's loss was the bigger swing. New England was close to a touchdown underdog, was missing multiple starters, and still won in Orchard Park when a Josh Allen deep shot into double coverage was intercepted on the final drive. One loss does not change Buffalo's talent level, which is why the price only drifted rather than collapsing. But it handed the favorite tag to the Rams just before the two meet.

Week 5: Three Games That Can Reshape the Futures Board

Bills at Rams, Monday night. The Rams are favored by 2.5 to 3.5 points with a total of 54.5, the highest on the slate alongside Lions at Cardinals. A Rams win would get them back over .500 and likely widen the gap at the top. A Bills win would almost certainly flip the order back, since the market has already shown it treats these two as nearly interchangeable. Fantasy managers should note that a 54.5 total makes this the premier stacking environment of the week for anyone with Monday flexibility.

49ers at Seahawks. San Francisco is 4-0 and still a road underdog of roughly 3.5. That pricing says the market respects Seattle's home field and remains skeptical of the 49ers' unbeaten start. A win would turn the 49ers into a legitimate co-favorite. A loss keeps them in the pack.

Vikings at Saints. Minnesota is 4-0 and priced like a fringe contender at +2500. The Vikings are only 1.5 to 2.5 point favorites in New Orleans with a total around 42, a low-scoring projection that matches a team winning more with structure than firepower. The Saints have been holding out Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave in practice, which matters for whether Minnesota can win comfortably.

Ravens and Chiefs: Two Contenders in Holding Patterns

Baltimore's futures price was set before the latest news on Lamar Jackson. Multiple outlets now report he has been ruled out of Sunday night's game in Atlanta with a left ankle sprain, and the Falcons have flipped from underdogs to roughly three-point favorites. The team has described the injury as one it is optimistic about over the long term, which explains why the futures price has not cratered. A Tyler Huntley win would reinforce the idea that Baltimore's floor holds without its star. A loss, especially a lopsided one, would likely push the Ravens out of the top tier.

Kansas City is on bye at 4-0, so its price only moves based on everyone else's results. That is a quiet advantage, though the Chiefs' depth at receiver has thinned after injuries to Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton. The market still prices an unbeaten Kansas City behind a 2-2 Rams team and a 3-1 Bills team, a sign that books are weighing roster health and schedule as much as the record.

The Winless Side of the Standings

At the other end, the Chargers, Dolphins and Texans each started 0-4. The Chargers face Denver on Sunday with a long injury list, including Joe Alt, Derwin James and Donte Jackson ruled out, and are roughly 3.5-point home underdogs. Miami hosts Cincinnati with Ja'Marr Chase back at practice in pads. Houston visits Tennessee with Tank Dell's practice window open.

For fantasy managers, winless teams create two opposite opportunities. Trailing teams pass more, which can inflate target volume for receivers on bad offenses. But they also tend to lose rushing volume in the second half, which is part of why the Chargers' backfield has turned into a committee led by Keaton Mitchell rather than a featured role for Omarion Hampton.

How to Use This as a Bettor and Fantasy Manager

For futures bettors, the practical point is timing. The top of the board is bunched, and Week 5 features direct results among contenders. Anyone who likes Buffalo is getting a slightly better price than a week ago, and that number moves either direction by Tuesday. Anyone who likes a Vikings team still priced at +2500 should understand the market's skepticism is about scoring margin, and a low total in New Orleans does not offer much chance to prove otherwise.

For fantasy managers, team quality matters through game environments. The Rams, Bills, Lions and Cardinals sit in the two highest-total games of the week, while Ravens at Falcons has dropped to about 43.5 with Jackson out. Starting players in projected shootouts and fading those in low totals is the simplest way to turn futures-market context into weekly points.

What's Next

Verdexed's model view on every Week 5 matchup, including the games that can reshape the contender tier, lives at /nfl/predictions. After Monday night, the board will have its first head-to-head result between the two favorites, a clearer read on whether San Francisco's unbeaten start is real, and a sense of how far Baltimore's price can fall without Jackson.

Watch the Tuesday futures updates closely. Early-season prices tend to overreact to single results, and a contender that drops after a narrow road loss can become the best value on the board heading into the middle of the season.
