Buium notched an assist in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes.
Buium came into the season with a fair amount of hype, especially after signing an eight-year extension in September. While that deal will likely age well in the future, the final season of his entry-level contract is off to an ugly start. Buium has just two assists with eight shots on net, nine blocked shots and a minus-7 rating over 11 appearances. He's spent the last week or so in a third-pairing role with diminished power-play time. Fantasy managers in dynasty formats can afford to be patient with Buium, but he doesn't need to be universally rostered in redraft leagues at this time.

Buium agreed to an eight-year, $75.04 million contract extension with the Canucks on Friday.
Buium was a first-round pick by the Wild in 2024, and he appeared in 31 regular-season matchups with Minnesota last year before being traded to the Canucks in mid-December. Across 76 regular-season appearances between the two clubs last year, the 20-year-old racked up six goals, 20 assists, 55 blocked shots, 41 PIM and 28 hits while averaging 19:35 of ice time, and he'll be rewarded with a long-term contract extension before the 2026-27 campaign.

Buium scored a goal on two shots and blocked two shots in Tuesday's 4-3 overtime win over the Kings.
Buium tallied for the first time since Jan. 23 versus the Devils. In that 24-game drought, he picked up five assists with a minus-17 rating, 23 shots on net, 20 blocked shots and 23 PIM. Buium has seen steady top-four minutes lately, as the Canucks have had nothing to lose by testing him in a big role. Through 75 appearances between Vancouver and Minnesota, the 20-year-old blueliner has six goals, 26 points (13 on the power play), 73 shots on net, 52 blocks, 37 PIM and a minus-33 rating.

The helper was Buium's first point in five games since he returned from a broken bone near his cheek that sidelined him for five contests prior to the Olympics. Buium (face) will return to the lineup Wednesday against the Jets, Canucks Insider reports.
Buium landed on injured reserve after suffering a broken bone near his cheek in late January, forcing him to miss five straight games before the Olympic break. Over 51 appearances between Minnesota and Vancouver this season, he's recorded five goals, 15 assists, 31 blocked shots, 15 hits and 14 PIM while averaging 19:14 of ice time.

Buium (face) is dealing with a broken bone near his cheek and isn't expected to be available until after the 2026 Winter Olympics, according to Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet on Tuesday.
Buium was injured Sunday against the Penguins after being struck in the face by the puck. MacIntyre relayed that surgery has yet to be ruled out to address Buium's broken bone near his cheek. The 20-year-old Buium was placed on injured reserve Monday and will now turn his attention to attempting to be ready for game action when the Canucks resume play Feb. 25 against Winnipeg after the Olympics.
