  • Iorio was placed on waivers by the Rangers on Tuesday, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Iorio was placed on injured reserve by the Rangers on Monday before he ultimately ended up on waivers Tuesday. The 23-year-old blueliner had a shot to make the NHL roster after appearing in six regular-season games for the Rangers in 2025-26. If he clears waivers, he will report to AHL Hartford, where he could play a sizable role to begin the 2026-27 campaign.

  • Iorio (lower body) landed on injured reserve Monday, according to PuckPedia.

Per Mollie Walker of the New York Post, Iorio skated Monday in a non-contact jersey, so his injury doesn't appear to be overly serious. The Rangers had to either waive Iorio or place him on IR on Monday in order to be compliant with the 23-man roster limit, but it's currently unclear how long Iorio will be sidelined for.

  • The Rangers announced Wednesday that Iorio (lower body) is considered day-to-day, Colin Stephenson of Newsday reports.

Iorio suffered his lower-body injury during Monday's preseason loss to New Jersey, but he doesn't appear to be facing a long-term absence due to the issue. It's not yet clear whether he'll suit up for either of the Rangers' final two preseason games. However, he could be ready for the start of the regular season. Whether he'll begin the year in the NHL or AHL remains to be seen.

  • Iorio sustained a lower-body injury during Monday's 3-2 preseason loss to New Jersey, per Colin Stephenson of Newsday.

Iorio logged just 11:52 of ice time Monday, and following the contest, he was mentioned to have been dealing with a lower-body issue. The 23-year-old blueliner spent a solid chunk of time in the majors during 2025-26, where he posted three assists, 15 shots on goal, 15 hits and 29 blocked shots across 27 regular-season outings between the Sharks and Rangers. If Iorio's injury isn't serious, he'll likely have just under a week to earn an NHL roster spot in the Rangers' defensive core before the start of the season. He'll continue to battle against the team's other right-handed defensemen, such as Braden Schneider, Scott Morrow and Dennis Cholowski.

  • Iorio signed a one-year contract with the Rangers on Friday.

Iorio was a restricted free agent this summer after completing his entry-level contract. He had three assists, 12 PIM, 15 hits and 39 blocks in 27 regular-season outings between San Jose and the Rangers in 2025-26. When everyone is healthy, Iorio probably doesn't have a regular role among the Rangers' three pairings, so if he makes the NHL squad, it will probably be as the seventh or eighth blueliner on the depth chart.

  • Iorio has played in just six of 20 games since the Rangers claimed him off waivers from the Sharks in late January. He was a healthy scratch Tuesday versus the Devils.

Iorio's playing time looked to be picking up after the Olympic break, but the Rangers have a healthy Adam Fox and are also giving a long look to Drew Fortescue for now. That leaves Iorio as the odd man out. In 27 total appearances between the Rangers and the Sharks, Iorio has three assists, 15 shots on net, 15 hits, 39 blocked shots, 12 PIM and a minus-4 rating. It's unclear if he'll be anything more than a part-time option late in the campaign.
