Latest news

  • Willander (lower body) is expected to miss Thursday's game against Winnipeg, per Canucks play-by-play announcer Brendan Batchelor.

Willander has three assists, four PIM, 10 hits and 17 blocks in 16 appearances with Vancouver in 2026-27. He also missed Tuesday's clash against Anaheim due to the injury. His next opportunity to play will come Saturday in Edmonton.

  • Willander (lower body) tweaked something in Tuesday's morning skate and won't play versus the Ducks, Canucks play-by-play announcer Brendan Batchelor reports.

Guillaume Brisebois will enter the lineup for Willander. The 21-year-old Willander is day-to-day for now, and he hasn't been ruled out for Thursday's game in Winnipeg. He's earned three assists over 16 appearances this season.

  • Willander notched two assists and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Flames.

Willander has opened the season in a top-four role and on the second power-play unit. The 21-year-old defenseman has earned three assists, three blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating over three contests. There's risk involved in rostering a Vancouver defenseman in fantasy, but Willander has some breakout potential after a 21-point campaign as a rookie in sheltered minutes last year.

  • Willander appears likely to make the Canucks' Opening Night roster for the 2026-27 season, Thomas Drance of The Athletic reports Monday.

Willander will still need to make an impression during training camp in September as he pushes for a spot on the Opening Night roster, but Drance suggests that the blueliner's development would benefit most by playing at the NHL level. The 21-year-old Willander made 70 regular-season appearances last year in his first taste of NHL action, recording five goals, 16 assists, 78 blocked shots, 35 hits and 28 PIM while averaging 16:59 of ice time.

  • Willander tallied a goal, put two shots on net and recorded two blocked shots in Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Wild.

Willander found the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season in Thursday's clash. He's posted solid numbers for a rookie campaign with 20 points, 53 shots on net, 25 hits and 70 blocked shots across 63 appearances. The 21-year-old blueliner has a point in back-to-back games and is skating on Vancouver's second defensive pairing. He's an intriguing player to add in deep dynasty-based fantasy leagues, as his rookie campaign has been a solid audition for a larger role next season.

  • Willander notched an assist and four blocked shots in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Panthers.

Willander has a pair of helpers over eight outings in March. He's gotten a chance to play regularly in a top-four role, and that should remain available to him down the stretch. The 21-year-old rookie has 18 points, 46 shots on net, 56 blocked shots and a minus-12 rating over 55 appearances for a decent first impression in the NHL.
