Couturier scored his first goal of the season in Wednesday's 5-2 loss to the Capitals.
The 33-year-old center tied the score at 1-1 early in the second period with a nifty display of hand-eye coordination, tipping home a wobbly Nick Seeler shot from the blue line that was going wide. Couturier no longer has a role in the top six or on the first power-play unit, and through 15 games to begin the season, he's managed only four points with 24 hits, 19 shots on net and a minus-4 rating.

Couturier will avoid his first scratch of the season after missing Sunday's practice for an undisclosed reason. The 33-year-old is set to skate between Michael Bunting and Jacob Gaucher on the third line Monday.
