Latest news

  • Steel has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Blue Jackets due to personal reasons, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports.

Steel had missed a pair of games in late October for an undisclosed reason, but he was back in action for the Stars' last three matchups. He'll be sidelined on the road against Columbus on Thursday, and it's not yet clear whether he'll return to action when the Stars return home to face the Sharks on Saturday. Colin Blackwell will enter the lineup in Steel's absence.

  • Steel (undisclosed) will return to action for Thursday's game against the Canadiens, Stars TV host Brien Rea reports.

Steel had missed the last two games due to his undisclosed injury, but he skated on the second line during Thursday's morning skate and is officially cleared to return to game action. Across his 10 appearances to begin the regular season, he's recorded a goal, two assists, eight hits, four PIM and three blocked shots while averaging 15:55 of ice time.

  • Steel (undisclosed) won't play against New Jersey on Tuesday, Owen Newkirk of DLLS Sports reports.

Steel will miss his second straight game, but he might be available to return against Montreal on Thursday. He has contributed one goal, two assists, 13 shots on net, eight hits and three blocked shots in 10 appearances this season.

  • Steel (undisclosed) will not play in Sunday's home clash against the Islanders, per Robert Tiffin of NHL.com.

Steel received an injection as part of treatment for an undisclosed issue. He has posted a goal, three points, 13 shots on net and eight hits across 10 games this season. In Steel's absence, David Perron could make his Dallas debut, but the Stars could also bring up some reinforcements from the minors.

  • Steel scored a goal and went plus-2 in Thursday's 4-0 win over the Sabres.

The Stars are still tinkering with line combinations, and the latest adjustment had Steel alongside Wyatt Johnston and Mikko Rantanen to begin Thursday's game. That's a great spot, but it's unclear if Steel will stay there in the long run. He's a versatile forward who can fit in all over the lineup. He has two points, seven shots on net, three hits and a plus-2 rating over four appearances.

  • Steel signed a four-year, $14.8 million contract extension with the Stars on Monday.

Steel has spent the past three seasons with the Stars, most recently recording 12 goals, 21 assists, 79 hits, 29 blocked shots and 24 PIM while averaging 16:04 of ice time across 73 regular-season appearances last year. He'll remain with Dallas on a multi-year agreement and will likely continue to handle a middle-six role during the 2026-27 campaign.
