The Golden Knights placed Wotherspoon (upper body) on injured reserve Wednesday, SinBin.vegas reports.
Wotherspoon has been dealing with his upper-body injury for over a week, and he's considered week-to-week. It's not yet clear when he'll be able to return, but it isn't particularly surprising to see him land on injured reserve. Alexander Holtz was recalled by the Golden Knights on Wednesday as part of a corresponding move, while Jeremy Lauzon should continue to see an increased role in Wotherspoon's absence.

Wotherspoon is dealing with an upper-body injury and is considered week-to-week, the Golden Knights announced Monday.
Wotherspoon being sidelined provides context for the Golden Knights calling up Ville Heinola on Sunday. Prior to sustaining the injury, the 29-year-old Wotherspoon had posted zero points, a minus-6 rating, five shots on net, five hits and five blocked shots across six appearances. While he is sidelined, Heinola and Jeremy Lauzon should see elevated roles.

Vegas acquired Wotherspoon from Pittsburgh on Tuesday in exchange for Kaedan Korczak.
As part of the trade, the Penguins will retain 50 percent of Wotherspoon's $1 million cap hit for the 2026-27 campaign. He registered three goals, 30 points, 70 shots on net, 112 blocked shots and 162 hits across 80 appearances during the 2025-26 regular season.

Wotherspoon sat out two of the Penguins' last three contests while resting up for the playoffs. The 28-year-old defenseman has put together a career year for the Penguins, producing personal bests in games (80), goals (three) and assists (27). While Wotherspoon shouldn't be considered an offensive stud, 30 points would be welcome production for a low-end option.
