Daws stopped 33 of 37 shots in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Panthers. The fifth goal was an empty-netter.
Daws did alright, but the Jets didn't have much to give in the second half of a back-to-back. This was the team's eighth straight loss, though it's the first one on Daws' ledger since he was flipped to Winnipeg in the Connor Hellebuyck trade. Daws has a 2-3-0 record with a 2.86 GAA and an .886 save percentage across six outings between the Jets and the Devils this year. With the Jets skidding, this could turn into an open competition between the three goalies on the roster to determine who gets control of the crease, though Stuart Skinner remains the favorite for now. The Jets' tough road trip continues against the Hurricanes on Sunday.

Daws will protect the road goal versus the Panthers on Friday, George Richards of Florida Hockey Now reports.
Daws will make his first start and second appearance for the Jets after logging a relief outing versus the Lightning on Thursday. Including his time with the Devils, he is 2-2-0 with a 2.57 GAA and an .884 save percentage across five games this season. A good performance Friday could help Daws leapfrog Clay Stevenson for the backup job behind Stuart Skinner.

Daws made nine saves in his Jets debut Thursday. He allowed one goal in a 6-4 loss to the Lightning.
Winnipeg is a tough place for Daws to try to take the next step in his game, as the Jets are 0-5-2 in their past seven games. At the same time, Stuart Skinner is inked through the next two seasons, leaving the crease wide open in 2028-29. Daws looked decent Thursday, so this could be a slow and steady process. On a short-term basis, he's a risk behind a team that has struggled to find ways to win early in the year.

Daws, Dawson Mercer, Alexander Command, Nick Bjugstad (pectoral) and a pair of draft picks were traded to the Jets from the Devils on Friday in exchange for Connor Hellebuyck.
Daws' workload at the NHL level has been limited in recent years, as he made six regular-season appearances for the Devils during the 2024-25 campaign before appearing in just three regular-season games last year. He made four starts to begin the 2026-27 regular season while working behind Jake Allen, and Daws has gone 2-2-0 with a 2.77 GAA and .874 save percentage. Stuart Skinner has been effective as the Jets' primary netminder early in the year amid Hellebuyck's suspension, but it seems as though Daws will at least have a chance to supplant Clay Stevenson as the team's No. 2 option.

Daws made 16 saves in Thursday's 4-1 win over Anaheim.
The road-weary Ducks didn't put up much of a fight, and Daws took a shutout into the third period until Tim Washe tipped home a shot from the blue line by Jackson LaCombe. Daws has won two straight starts, and over four outings to begin the season he's 2-2-0 with a 2.77 GAA and .874 save percentage, positioning him as more of a 1B option behind Jake Allen rather than the clear backup.

Daws will tend the twine at home against Anaheim on Thursday, Amanda Stein of the Devils' official site reports.
Daws stopped 18 of 19 shots in his previous outing -- a 7-1 victory over the Rangers on Oct. 15. While the 25-year-old backstop could see a few extra starts given his recent performances, he is unlikely to completely unseat Jake Allen from the No. 1 role in New Jersey.
