Schmaltz produced a goal and two assists, all on the power play, in Thursday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Canadiens.
The Mammoth's strength with the man advantage kept them in the game despite being outshot 35-20. Schmaltz put together a career-best campaign in 2025-26 with 74 points (33 goals, 41 assists) in 82 regular-season games, but the 30-year-old has found another gear to begin the current season. Through 17 contests, Schmaltz has delivered nine goals and 20 points, including seven goals and five assists on the power play.

Schmaltz notched a power-play goal Tuesday in a 3-2 win over Toronto.
The goal, which came in the third period, broke a 2-2 tie; he jammed in a rebound that lay loose in the crease. It was Schmaltz's eighth goal of the season and first in six games. His scoring has slowed dramatically from his scorching start to the season, but that was expected -- there's almost no way to sustain a 10-game, 13-point heater, at least for him. Schmaltz has four points (one goal) in his last six games, but three of those points has come with the man advantage. Prior to last season's 33-goal, 74-point success, Schmaltz was a very consistent 58-63 point player with 20-23 goals. It's more likely he's the guy pre-last season than he is the sniper he was last season.

Schmaltz notched two power-play assists, three shots on goal and a minus-3 rating in Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Flyers.
Schmaltz has a trio of assists over his last three games. Like many of the Mammoth's top players, Schmaltz has thrived on the power play over the first month of the season. He's at seven goals and nine assists through 15 games, with eight of his 16 points coming on the power play. Schmaltz has added 41 shots on net, 10 hits and a minus-9 rating while seeing steady top-six minutes.

Schmaltz scored the game-winning goal on the power play and added an even-strength assist in Monday's 5-4 win over the Penguins.
Schmaltz continued his impressive start to the campaign, scoring his seventh goal of the season while bringing his assist total to six. The 30-year-old center has established himself as one of Utah's most productive offensive players, and he has cracked the scoresheet in eight of his 10 appearances to start the campaign.

Schmaltz notched two assists, including one on the power play, in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Oilers.
Schmaltz continues to offer high-end offense to begin the season. This was his third multi-point effort of the year, and he's gotten on the scoresheet in seven of eight games. The 30-year-old forward is up to six goals, five assists, five power-play points, 26 shots on net and a minus-2 rating. Schmaltz often thrives as a playmaker, but after a 33-goal, 74-point regular season in 2025-26, he is poised to be more of an all-purpose threat on offense while adding limited non-scoring production.

Schmaltz potted a power-play goal, fired four shots on net and recorded two blocked shots in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Sabres.
After being kept off the scoresheet for the first time in 2026-27 during Thursday's loss to Boston, Schmaltz responded well Saturday with what turned out to be the game-winning goal. The 30-year-old forward slammed the puck past Buffalo's Colten Ellis at the far post off a pass from Logan Cooley on the man advantage. Schmaltz has a league-high four power-play tallies among his six goals while adding two assists and 24 shots on net across six appearances. His hot start is no fluke, as he started the 2025-26 campaign on the right foot as well, tallying seven goals and 17 points across his first 11 games. Schmaltz finished the 2025-26 regular season with a career-high 33 goals, and he looks poised to push for the 30-goal mark again this season.
