Latest news

  • Pettersson posted an assist, two blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Lightning.

Pettersson's helper Tuesday was his first point as a Ranger. He's filling the role he was acquired for -- a steady second-pairing shutdown defenseman. Through eight games, he's posted six shots on net, 11 hits, 14 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating while averaging 20:35 of ice time. Pettersson has displayed 30-point potential in the past, but offense is secondary to keeping opponents in check for the 30-year-old blueliner.

  • Pettersson was traded to the Rangers from the Canucks on Wednesday in exchange for a conditional 2030 first-round pick, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

The pick is a top-10 protected selection. Pettersson should occupy a similar role with the Rangers as he did with the Canucks, likely playing second-pairing minutes and some time on the penalty kill. He had 18 points, 66 shots on net, 79 hits, 136 blocked shots, 60 PIM and a minus-19 rating over 82 contests on the bottom-dwelling Canucks last year.

  • Pettersson scored a goal in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Kings.

Pettersson suited up for his 600th NHL contest, and he marked the occasion with the Canucks' lone goal. The defenseman is up to four points over five games in April. He's at three goals, 18 points, 64 shots on net, 77 hits, 60 PIM, 133 blocked shots and a minus-15 rating over 78 appearances. Pettersson remains a defensive stalwart in a top-four role, but he'd need to sustain his recent success to get to the 20-point mark this year with four games left on the schedule.

  • Pettersson scored a goal, dished two assists, went plus-4, doled out three hits and blocked three shots in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Avalanche.

Pettersson ended his 11-game point drought in a big way. The defenseman helped out on a Teddy Blueger tally in the second period, then scored the game-winner at 14:21 of the third before setting up Brock Boeser's empty-netter. Pettersson has provided limited upside on offense with 17 points over 74 appearances this season. He's added 61 shots on net, 60 PIM, 71 hits, 124 blocks and a minus-9 rating in a top-four role on a bad team.

  • Pettersson notched two assists, two blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Friday's 6-3 win over the Blackhawks.

Pettersson has three helpers over three games in March. The 29-year-old defenseman continues to see plenty of playing time in a top-four role for the Canucks. He's at 14 points, 56 shots on net, 56 hits, 56 PIM and 104 blocked shots over 62 appearances. Pettersson can help in deeper fantasy formats that count blocks, but his overall profile isn't enticing on a bad team.

  • Pettersson recorded an assist, three shots on goal, two hits and two blocked shots in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Devils.

The helper ended an eight-game slump for Pettersson. He was limited to 17:34 of ice time Friday, his lowest mark since Dec. 11 versus the Sabres, which was the last game before the Quinn Hughes trade. Pettersson has 10 points, 44 shots on net, 54 PIM, 43 hits, 83 blocked shots and a minus-4 rating over 51 appearances. He's in the first year of a six-year contract with a $5.5 million cap hit, but the 29-year-old probably won't fit the Canucks' competitive timeline since the team looks to be entering a full rebuild. He could be attractive to contending teams looking for a top-four blueliner with term, and just about any move would improve his fantasy outlook.
