Schenn signed a one-year, $2.25 million contract with the Canucks on Wednesday.
Schenn had a goal, seven points, 43 PIM, 149 hits and 57 blocks in 50 regular-season appearances between Winnipeg and Buffalo in 2025-26. He's returning to the Canucks after playing for them in 2022-23 and part of 2023-24. The 36-year-old blueliner will likely open the upcoming campaign on the third pairing and help with the penalty kill. Schenn should accumulate plenty of PIM and hits as long as he stays healthy and in the lineup.

Schenn and Logan Stanley were traded to the Sabres from the Jets on Thursday in exchange for Isak Rosen, Jacob Bryson, a second-round pick and a fourth-round pick, Murat Ates of The Athletic reports.
Schenn continues to rack up frequent flier miles -- this is the third time he's been traded in the last year, give or take a day. Schenn is a physical defenseman who can bring critical physicality in a third-pairing role, but he's not a lock to be in the lineup regularly for the Sabres, who may want to keep Michael Kesselring active more often. Schenn is good insurance for any injuries that could happen down the stretch, and his physical play will also be useful if Buffalo is able to get into the playoffs. He has just seven points with 139 hits and 54 blocked shots over 46 outings this season.

Schenn is in line for extra playing time while the Jets are missing Josh Morrissey (upper body) and Neal Pionk (undisclosed). The 36-year-old Schenn snapped a nine-game slump with his helper Wednesday. He's been limited to seven points, 31 shots on net, 133 hits, 53 blocked shots and a minus-8 rating over 43 appearances in a part-time role this season. While Schenn should be able to stick in the lineup in the short term, the Jets appear committed to giving Elias Salomonsson a longer look in a top-four capacity.

Schenn has been battling with Colin Miller for a third-pairing role for much of the season, though the former is getting the majority of the playing time. The 36-year-old Schenn had gone 10 games without a point entering Tuesday before scoring at 12:04 of the second period. Schenn had been a healthy scratch for the previous three games, even with Neal Pionk (lower body) and Haydn Fleury (concussion) sidelined. The Jets opted to put Schenn in against his former team, and he delivered his best game of the season, assisting on tallies by Nino Niederreiter and Kyle Connor. Through 17 appearances, Schenn has four helpers -- all of which have come in his last four games. He's added 14 shots on net, 39 hits, 23 blocked shots, 12 PIM and a minus-3 rating. Schenn will compete with Elias Salomonsson for playing time until the Jets' blue line gets healthier.

He may get more consistent minutes while Haydn Fleury (concussion) is on injured reserve. The 36-year-old will offer far more in physicality than he will in offense.
