Latest news

  • Chmelar was recalled from AHL Hartford on Monday.

Chmelar was sent to the minors in mid-October, but he'll rejoin the Rangers after Taylor Raddysh was sent down Monday. Across his seven appearances with the NHL club earlier in the regular season, Chmelar was held scoreless with 15 hits while averaging 8:15 of ice time. Chmelar saw fairly regular playing time during his previous stint with the Rangers and could have an opportunity to carve out a role once again now that he's back in the NHL.

  • Chmelar was assigned to AHL Hartford on Friday.

Chmelar made seven appearances for the Rangers to begin the regular season, and he was held scoreless with 15 hits while averaging 8:15 of ice time. He should have more consistent opportunities to make an impact in the AHL, while Taylor Raddysh was called up in a corresponding move to take Chmelar's place on the NHL roster.

  • Chmelar scored a goal Saturday in a 4-1 win over Detroit.

It was a beautiful tip that beat John Gibson to open the scoring in the first period. Chmelar has a modest five points, including four goals, in 23 games this season, but three of those points (two goals, one assist) have come in his last five games (nine shots). Chmelar has limited upside, but his massive frame (six-foot-five) makes him a dangerous net-front presence.

  • Chmelar scored a goal on three shots in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Devils.

Chmelar was limited to one assist over eight outings since his previous goal. The 22-year-old is getting an extended look in the bottom six as the Rangers evaluate some younger players' NHL readiness. Through 21 contests this season, Chmelar has four points, 17 shots on net, 36 hits and a minus-3 rating. He should be in contention for a bottom-six role for 2026-27 after playing primarily on the fourth line during this stretch of NHL action in March.

  • Chmelar scored a goal on two shots and blocked two shots in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Wild.

Chmelar is getting an extended look on the fourth line, and he's scored twice over six games since the start of March. The 22-year-old won't have a lot of upside in that spot, but he's done enough to keep his place in the lineup. Chmelar has two goals, nine shots on net, 19 hits, eight blocked shots and seven PIM over his first 12 NHL outings.

  • Chmelar was recalled from AHL Hartford on Friday.

The Rangers briefly returned Chmelar to the minors to make him eligible for the Calder Cup Playoffs. He has registered one goal, four shots on net, four blocked shots and 13 hits in seven NHL appearances this season.
