Thrun was placed on waivers by the Jets on Sunday, per Ken Wiebe of The Winnipeg Free Press.
Thrun signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Jets in the offseason, but he'll begin his tenure in the organization in the minors. The 25-year-old blueliner had a short stint with the Maple Leafs last season, but he primarily played with AHL Toronto, posting 23 points in 55 regular-season AHL outings. He'll be on the call-up radar for the Jets if the team has any injuries on the blue line, but he'll likely suit up with AHL Manitoba in the interim.

Thrun signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Jets on Thursday, per Murat Ates of The Athletic.
Thrun had five goals, 23 points and 37 PIM in 55 regular-season appearances with AHL Toronto. He also had two goals and nine points in 24 playoff outings with the Marlies en route to winning the Calder Cup. At the NHL level, the 25-year-old has accumulated five goals, 25 points and 46 PIM in 123 career regular-season appearances. Thrun will enter training camp with a genuine shot of making Winnipeg's Opening Night roster.

Thrun will become an unrestricted free agent after not receiving a qualifying offer from Toronto on Monday, according to PuckPedia.
Thrun appeared in just four games with the Maple Leafs this past season. However, he helped AHL Toronto win a Calder Cup championship, producing two goals and nine points over 24 postseason outings. The left-shot blueliner also had five goals and 23 points over 55 regular-season games with the Marlies in 2025-26.

Thrun did not draw into the lineup Sunday in Minnesota after being elevated from the minors on an emergency basis. The 25-year-old's return to the AHL could be an indication that Oliver Ekman-Larsson (personal) will be back in action against the Islanders on Tuesday.
