The big defender has a surprising three assists in his last two games. Cernak's best offensive season came in 2024-25 when he put up three goals and 18 assists. He's much better known for his physicality. Cernak has 28 hits and 21 blocked shots in just 14 games so far. He has delivered at least 100 hits in every full season with the exception of the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 where he fell short of the century by two hits.

Cernak sat out Saturday's 5-4 shootout loss to Nashville with an undisclosed injury. With the 29-year-old blueliner back in the fold, the Lightning will dress seven defensemen and 11 forwards against the Red Wings on Tuesday, with Scott Sabourin serving as a healthy scratch. Cernak put the Lightning up 2-1 late in the second period on a goalmouth scramble. Cam Talbot had stopped Cernak's initial redirection and Ryan McDonagh's subsequent rebound. McDonagh grabbed his own rebound and passed back to Cernak, who drilled the puck past Talbot, who was down and out. It was the defensive defender's first point in 11 games. He has three goals, eight assists, 112 hits, 97 blocks and 52 shots in 60 contests.
