Brown has earned three points, six shots on net and a plus-3 rating over five games since he recovered from a lower-body injury that cost him more than two weeks to start the season. The 32-year-old winger has occupied a fourth-line role primarily, though he gets more usage when the Devils need to protect a lead. Brown has some deep-league fantasy appeal as a depth scorer, but his current role makes his production too unpredictable to trust in standard formats.

Brown had an assist in 13:54 of ice time in his season debut Tuesday during New Jersey's 4-3 win over Colorado.
Brown picked up a lower-body injury during training camp. He has some offensive upside, tying his career mark for points (43) last season, but the Devils will ease Brown back into the lineup. Right now, he's on the fourth line, and that will stick for another week or so to see if he can perform well enough to slide up the ranks.

Brown has missed the beginning of the regular season due to a lower-body injury, and he'll be eligible to be activated off injured reserve whenever he's cleared to return by the team's medical staff. The 32-year-old made 75 regular-season appearances for New Jersey last year and recorded 18 goals, 25 assists, 37 blocked shots, 25 hits and 22 PIM while averaging 17:33 of ice time.

Brown sustained the injury during Monday's practice. Head coach Sheldon Keefe clarified that he doesn't believe Brown's injury is "too extensive," but the 32-year-old forward won't be ready until next week at the earliest. That rules him out for Thursday's season opener versus Philadelphia and Saturday's road game against the Islanders. Brown will likely play in a middle-six capacity once he's healthy.
