Detroit claimed Englund off waivers from Calgary on Saturday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Englund earned three goals, 13 points and 65 PIM in 52 appearances for AHL Milwaukee during the 2025-26 regular season. Due to Jacob Bernard-Docker's (upper body) injury and Simon Edvinsson's contract situation, Englund could begin the 2026-27 campaign in the NHL with the Red Wings.

Englund joined the Flames on a one-year, two-way contract during the offseason and will begin the regular season with the team's AHL affiliate, assuming he clears waivers.
