Sykora (lower body) will begin the 2026-27 regular season on injured reserve, per the NHL Media Site.
Sykora's move to injured reserve was expected, as the Rangers had already announced that he would miss roughly 4-5 months. The 22-year-old winger's absence is a tough loss for New York, who saw him post three goals, four points, 15 shots on net, 20 hits and 10 blocked shots across 11 regular-season outings in his rookie campaign. While he's not expected to return until the second half of the upcoming campaign, Sykora could play a meaningful role for the Rangers once he's healthy.

Based on his timeline, Sykora will almost certainly be designated for non-roster injured reserve at the start of the year to free up a spot for the Rangers. Prior to getting hurt, the 22-year-old winger was facing an uphill battle to make the Opening Night roster. Now, with his extended stint on the shelf, Sykora will almost certainly start in the minors once given the all-clear.

Sykora managed just 2:49 of ice time in the first period before not coming out of the locker room for the start of the second. Considering Sykora was ruled out of this game rather quickly, it seems unlikely that he'll suit up in the second half of the Rangers' back-to-back against the Islanders on Tuesday.

Sykora and the Rangers' fourth line got in on the fun in the second period. The 21-year-old scored at 13:22 of the frame to put the Rangers up 5-1.
