Ekblad scored a shorthanded goal in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Red Wings.
His tally late in the second quarter tied the game at 2-2, as he banked the puck off Daniil Tarasov's skate from behind the Detroit net. It was Ekblad's first goal of the season, and the 30-year-old blueliner's days of being a real offensive threat appear to be over. He hasn't scored double-digit goals since 2022-23, and through 13 games in 2026-27 he's managed just five points, while adding 19 shots on net, 17 hits, 14 blocks shots, 10 PIM and a minus-6 rating.

Ekblad (personal) practiced Friday, per Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site, and is set to play Saturday versus Minnesota.
Ekblad was absent from Florida's previous two games. He has an assist in two outings with the Panthers in 2026-27. Ekblad and Gustav Forsling are set to form Florida's top pairing Saturday, based on Friday's practice.

The Panthers aren't expected to make any lineup changes ahead of Tuesday's matchup, meaning that Ekblad is likely still with his family attending to a personal matter. The 30-year-old blueliner posted a power-play assist and two hits across his two appearances in the 2026-27 campaign. In his expected absence, Uvis Balinskis will likely be active once again Tuesday. Per Velez, the Panthers' television broadcast said that Ekblad is with his family, and the reason for his absence is a personal matter rather than an injury. It's unclear if the right-shot defenseman will be available for Tuesday's game in Los Angeles, but if Ekblad traveled back to Florida, he might not be an option for the Panthers until Saturday's home matchup against the Wild.

Ekblad suffered a broken finger Tuesday versus Ottawa and could be sidelined for the remainder of the season, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports Thursday.
Head coach Paul Maurice said that Ekblad would be out "weeks," and with only two weeks remaining in the regular season and the Panthers all but eliminated from playoff contention, it is likely the end of the campaign for the 30-year-old blueliner. Assuming he doesn't return down the stretch, Ekblad will end the season with four goals, 22 assists, 84 hits and 103 blocked shots across 72 regular-season games in 2025-26.
