Buehler didn't factor in the decision in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Brewers on Wednesday. He gave up a run on three hits with two walks and no strikeouts over three innings.
The veteran right-hander fought his control at times, throwing just 25 of his 47 pitches for strikes, but he kept San Diego in the game with just one run allowed. Buehler joined the Padres on a minor-league contract in February but made the Opening Day roster and spent all season in the rotation. He struggled to a 5.36 ERA during the first half of the campaign but posted a 3.62 ERA after the All-Star break, finishing the regular season with an overall 4.63 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 131:57 K:BB across 153.2 innings. Buehler will return to the open market this winter, and it remains to be seen if he's done enough to secure a rotation spot somewhere for 2027.

Buehler will be the Padres' starting pitcher for Game 4 of the NLDS versus the Brewers on Wednesday.
The only question had seemed to be whether Buehler would follow an opener or make a traditional start, and the Padres have opted for the latter. Buehler experienced an up-and-down 2026 season in San Diego but had a quality second half, logging a 3.62 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 50:22 K:BB over 64.2 innings. The veteran righty will be on a short leash in the elimination game for the Padres.

The Padres activated Buehler from the paternity list Monday.
Buehler was away for the first two games of the series but will be back on the roster as the series shifts to San Diego for Game 3 on Tuesday. The veteran right-hander is a candidate to start Game 4, if needed. Buehler logged a 4.63 ERA and 131:57 K:BB over 153.2 innings covering 32 starts this season for the Padres.

The Padres placed Buehler on the postseason paternity list Saturday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Buehler will be allowed to miss up to three days while he welcomes a new addition to his family, and he'll be eligible to rejoin the Padres' NLDS roster immediately upon returning. In the meantime, Randy Vasquez will replace Buehler on San Diego's pitching staff.

Buehler (9-6) allowed three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out six over 6.2 innings to earn the win over the Marlins on Sunday.
Buehler came into this start on a stretch of four straight no-decisions, a span in which he gave up eight runs over 17 innings. He was able to dig a little deeper for a quality start and a victory, throwing 63 of 89 pitches for strikes in this outing. For the season, Buehler has a 4.56 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 128:56 K:BB through 150 innings over 31 starts. He's projected for a home start against the Diamondbacks to wrap up his regular season.
