  • Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Wednesday that Fried had his left elbow re-imaged and his UCL is in a good spot heading into the offseason, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Fried made two trips to the injured list this season due to a bone bruise in his pitching elbow. However, he ended the campaign healthy, and there are no concerns about the pitcher's ligament entering the winter. Fried was limited to 20 regular-season starts in 2026 but was highly effective when on the mound, logging a 2.80 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 104:33 K:BB over 112.2 innings. The 2027 season will be the third year of Fried's eight-year, $218 million contract.

  • Fried was charged with the loss in Game 3 of the ALDS against the Rays on Wednesday, allowing four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and no walks over 5.2 innings.

The left-hander surrendered a pair of homers, including a two-run shot by Victor Mesa to break a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning. It's an unfortunate end to the campaign for Fried, who was limited to 20 regular-season starts due to elbow issues. He was still plenty effective when available with a 2.80 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 104:33 K:BB across 112.2 innings.

  • Manager Aaron Boone confirmed that Fried will start Wednesday's Game 3 of the ALDS against the Rays, Chelsea Janes of SNY.tv reports.

It will be one week since Fried last pitched when he toes the rubber in Game 3 on Wednesday, so he should be fully rested in a must-win matchup for the Yankees. The southpaw looked sharp in his first outing of the postseason in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series against Boston, earning the victory after allowing one run on three hits and one walk while fanning six over six frames.

  • Fried earned the win in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series against the Red Sox on Wednesday. He struck out six and allowed one run on three hits and one walk over six innings.

The veteran left-hander was working on a shutout until Willson Contreras launched a two-out, solo homer during the top of the sixth inning, which, when coupled with the fact the Yankees subsequently erupted for six runs in the bottom of the frame, helped spell an end to Fried's day. It's the second straight season Fried shut down Boston in the wild-card round, as he fired 6.1 scoreless frames in Game 1 of that series last year. He missed time in 2026 due to elbow issues but still made 20 regular-season starts and had a 2.80 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 104:33 K:BB across 112.2 innings.

  • Fried (5-5) took the loss in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rays, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks over 6.2 innings. He struck out four.

The veteran lefty kept things close until the seventh inning, when Tampa Bay tagged Fried for three runs and chased him after 97 pitches (64 strikes). With the 6-1 loss, the Rays clinched the AL East crown, but the Yankees are still locked into a wild-card spot. Tuesday's outing was the first time Fried had allowed more than one run since July 27, and he wraps up his regular season with a 2.80 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 104:33 K:BB in 112.2 innings. His next start should come in the first round of the playoffs, which will begin for New York next Tuesday, Sept. 29.

  • Fried (5-4) earned the win Tuesday against the Twins after allowing one run on six hits while striking out six over seven innings. He did not issue a walk.

Fried delivered his longest outing since April 22, though he needed only 88 pitches (58 strikes) to complete seven frames. Minnesota's lone run came on Emmanuel Rodriguez's RBI single in the second, and Fried immediately ended the threat by picking Rodriguez off first. Fried didn't issue a walk for the first time since April 11 and retired 15 of the final 18 hitters he faced. The victory was Fried's first since April 27, and he lowered his ERA to an impressive 2.63 with this outing. Fried is scheduled to make his next start at home against the Rays next week.
