  • Cole will start Game 1 of the ALDS against the Rays on Saturday.

The Rays were much better against right-handers (fourth in OPS) than left-handers (25th in OPS) this season, but the Yankees will roll with Cole rather than lefty Carlos Rodon in Game 1. Cole made three starts against the Rays in the regular season, logging a 2.50 ERA and 16:7 K:BB over 18 frames.

  • Cole (10-9) earned the win Wednesday over the Rays, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight.

Cole ended his regular season on a high note, allowing just four runs over 11.2 innings while striking out 14 in his last two starts -- he had struggled to a 5.96 ERA in his previous four outings. The right-hander held Tampa Bay scoreless Wednesday until Jonny DeLuca's two-out RBI double in the fourth inning, and Cedric Mullins then added a solo home run in the fifth. Cole will finish the regular season with a 3.61 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 131:25 K:BB across 22 starts (127 innings).

  • Cole (9-9) allowed two runs on four hits and struck out six without walking a batter over six innings to earn the win over the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Cole served up a two-run home run to Corbin Carroll in the second inning but was otherwise successful at limiting the damage. The long ball has been a problem for Cole lately -- he's allowed 10 homers over his last six starts, giving up a total of 18 runs across 34.2 innings in that span. For the season, he's at a 3.63 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 123:22 K:BB through 121.1 innings over 21 starts. Cole is lined up for one more regular-season start at home against the Rays next week, which also positions him to be on the hill if the Yankees end up playing in the wild-card round.

  • Cole (8-9) took the loss against the Mets on Saturday, allowing five runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out four batters over 4.1 innings.

For the second straight start, Cole gave up a home run to the first batter he faced -- in this instance, Francisco Lindor. The veteran hurler actually yielded a homer to the first three batters against the Angels in his previous outing, and though that didn't happen this time around, Cole did give up three long balls overall. He's now surrendered seven home runs over his past two starts (both losses), more than he had given up in his previous 11 starts combined. It's not the ideal time for Cole to be struggling, both because the Yankees are trying to catch Tampa Bay in the AL East and because fantasy managers in most head-to-head leagues are in the midst of the playoffs. Cole will look to get back on track in his next appearance, which is lined up to be on the road in Arizona.

  • Cole (8-8) took the loss against the Padres on Sunday, allowing four runs on six hits and no walks in seven innings. He struck out three.

Cole started his outing by giving up home runs to the first three batters he faced. This was actually the second time in Cole's career that he allowed three consecutive homers to start a game -- the first came in 2022 against the Twins. The right-hander served up a fourth solo homer in the seventh inning but still tied his longest outing of the campaign. Cole has issued two or fewer walks in each of his past five starts, though he hasn't had his strikeout stuff lately with just 13 punchouts in his past three outings (18.1 innings). He lines up for a matchup with the Mets his next time out.

  • Cole (8-7) allowed three runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out five over 5.1 innings to earn the win over the Angels on Tuesday.

This was Cole's shortest start in nearly two months. He's allowed three runs in back-to-back outings after a stretch of five starts in which he surrendered no more than two runs in each game. Cole is at a 3.29 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 110:22 K:BB through 104 innings over 18 starts this season. With wins in five of his last seven outings, he's in a good position to keep things rolling when he gets a home start versus the Rockies next week.
