Week 7 Streamers: Matthew Stafford, T.J. Hockenson and the Browns Defense Lead the Bye-Week Fill-Ins

By Verdexed Fantasy Desk

Things haven't totally clicked for Matthew Stafford and the Rams offense, but that could change against Buffalo.

With Buffalo, Jacksonville, the Chargers and Washington all on bye, Week 7 is the first real squeeze of the fantasy season. Josh Allen, Jayden Daniels, Justin Herbert and Trevor Lawrence are off at the same time, along with tight ends such as Brenton Strange. The good news for managers scrambling to fill holes: the streaming pool is unusually strong, led by Matthew Stafford at Las Vegas, T.J. Hockenson off the Vikings' bye and a Cleveland Browns defense that has turned into a weekly sack machine.

The picks below lean on matchup, role and Wednesday's practice reports; rostered rates vary by platform. Quarterbacks Tanner McKee and C.J. Stroud are covered in Verdexed's Cowboys-Eagles preview and Week 7 start/sit column and are left out here.

Quarterback streamers

Matthew Stafford, Rams at Raiders. Stafford is the best fill-in available in a large share of leagues. He leads the league with 1,794 passing yards and has 11 touchdown passes, per FantraxHQ, but sits outside the top 12 in points per game because of a few quiet weeks. The matchup fixes that: Las Vegas has allowed the sixth- or seventh-most fantasy points to quarterbacks depending on the outlet. Davante Adams is out six to 10 weeks after hamstring surgery, which narrows the passing game to Puka Nacua and Tyler Higbee but does not shrink the volume. The Rams are favored by 4.5 to 6 with a total of 48.5.

Kyler Murray, Vikings vs. Colts. Murray comes off a bye with an unbeaten team and a healthier set of targets. Jordan Addison (hamstring) and Hockenson (concussion) were both full participants Wednesday, while Justin Jefferson was limited with an ankle injury. Before the bye, Murray threw for 229 yards and a touchdown against New Orleans and ran for a season-high 51 yards. The catch is the game environment: Minnesota is a 5.5- to 6.5-point favorite with a total around 41.5, so a lead could mean a run-heavy second half. He is rostered in roughly 39 to 49 percent of leagues depending on the site.

Geno Smith, Jets vs. Dolphins. Smith is the deep-league option. Through six games with the Jets he has completed 68.9 percent of 177 attempts for 1,336 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception. Miami has allowed at least 245 passing yards, multiple touchdown passes or both in four straight games, and one analysis has the Dolphins allowing a league-high 76.6 percent completion rate. The ceiling is limited, since he has topped 20 fantasy points only once, but Omar Cooper Jr. (six catches, 103 yards and a touchdown in his return) gives him a real target.

Superflex only: Michael Penix Jr., Falcons vs. 49ers. Penix threw three touchdowns against Chicago in Week 6 and is listed as a sleeper by CBS Sports. San Francisco may be without Nick Bosa again, but this is a 2-QB play, not a one-QB stream.

Tight end streamers

T.J. Hockenson, Vikings vs. Colts. Kevin O'Connell said Hockenson is working through the final phase of the concussion protocol, and his full practice Wednesday is the strongest signal yet that he plays. One outlet ranks Indianapolis' pass defense 28th. He is rostered in about a third of leagues, so he is the first tight end to check for.

Tyler Higbee, Rams at Raiders. Terrance Ferguson is on injured reserve with an ankle injury and is not eligible to return until Week 8, and Adams' absence opens more targets behind Nacua. Higbee scored only 4.2 fantasy points in Week 6, but he played 84.2 percent of the snaps and had 11-plus points in each of the three games before that. FantasyPros' expert consensus has him around TE10 this week, and he is rostered in about 35 percent of Yahoo leagues.

AJ Barner, Seahawks vs. Chiefs. Barner is a dart throw with a matchup case. Kansas City has allowed the third-most fantasy points per game to tight ends, and ESPN's Liz Loza noted that with Elijah Arroyo expected to miss significant time, Barner should stay atop the depth chart. The risk is real: he was not targeted against Denver until late in the third quarter.

Deep stash: Michael Mayer, Raiders vs. Rams. Over the past four weeks Mayer has 23 targets, 19 catches, 211 yards and a touchdown. Brock Bowers still caps his ceiling, so he is a stash in deep formats rather than a Week 7 starter.

Defense streamers

Minnesota Vikings vs. Colts. If Minnesota's defense is somehow available, grab it first. The Vikings allow 12.8 points per game, fewest in the league, and Brian Flores blitzed on 71 percent of dropbacks over the first three weeks. Daniel Jones has accounted for nine turnovers, and PFF charges him with 15 turnover-worthy plays, most among qualifying quarterbacks. Tennessee sacked him six times last week. Shane Steichen is sticking with Jones as the starter.

Houston Texans vs. Giants. New York is turning to J.J. McCarthy, acquired from Minnesota on Sept. 28, for his first start with the team after John Harbaugh benched Jameis Winston during the Week 6 loss to the Saints. McCarthy goes in behind a line with left tackle Andrew Thomas (groin) and right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (calf) on the injury report, against a Houston pass rush that one report credits with about 18 sacks, led by Will Anderson Jr. Houston is the biggest favorite of the week, by 8.5 to 10.5 points.

Cleveland Browns at Titans. This is the most widely recommended streamer and is still available in roughly 80 percent of Yahoo leagues. Cleveland has at least three sacks and a takeaway in five straight games and ranks fifth in pressure rate, per one analysis. Cam Ward has thrown an interception in four straight games. The counterpoint: Ward has taken only 10 sacks through six games, and Tennessee's defense just produced six sacks, three takeaways and a blocked-punt touchdown in a 26-20 win over Indianapolis. The total is the lowest of the week at 36.5 to 38.5.

New York Jets vs. Dolphins. Miami is 0-5, ties for the fewest points per game in the league at 14.0, and Malik Willis has been sacked 13 to 14 times depending on the source. The Jets average 2.8 sacks per game, tied for seventh, and are rostered in about 13 percent of leagues. The caution is that they failed to sack Drake Maye once last week.

What to do in your league

Prioritize by scarcity. Managers missing Allen, Daniels, Herbert or Lawrence should spend a meaningful bid on Stafford if he is available and treat Murray as the backup plan. In 12-team leagues with deep benches, Smith is a reasonable floor play rather than a ceiling one.

At tight end, Hockenson is the add if Friday confirms he has cleared the protocol, with Higbee as the safer fallback because his health is not in question. Among defenses, the Browns and Jets are the realistic options for most managers, since the Vikings and Texans are usually rostered. The Browns also face Pittsburgh in Week 8, so treat them as a one-week rental. Verdexed's full Week 7 game slate is at /blog/nfl-week-7-picks-2026, with matchup views at /nfl/predictions.

What's next

Thursday and Friday practice reports decide three of these calls. Hockenson needs to finish the concussion protocol, Jefferson's ankle could change Murray's outlook, and Bosa's status affects Penix's matchup. Keep a late-window option such as Stafford or Higbee in reserve in case an early streamer falls through.
