Two 5-3 teams meet in Foxborough on Sunday afternoon in one of the best matchups of Week 9. Jordan Love leads the NFL with 2,246 passing yards and 16 touchdown passes after a three-touchdown night against Carolina, and the Green Bay Packers have had 10 days to rest since that Thursday win. The New England Patriots answer with Drake Maye, who led a 24-19 comeback in Miami without his top three receivers. The Patriots are short favorites of roughly 2.5 to 3 points with a total in the 46.5 to 47.5 range.

The fantasy headline is health. A.J. Brown (knee) and TreVeyon Henderson (illness) both missed last week and are listed as questionable in early previews, tight end Hunter Henry left the Miami game with a foot injury, and Green Bay's Christian Watson is playing through a broken rib.

The injury picture

Here is where the key fantasy names stand early in the week, based on team reports and preview listings. Final designations come Friday.

Brown's situation is the swing factor. He could not finish practice the Wednesday before the Miami game, missed the rest of that week and was downgraded to out before the team traveled. Head coach Mike Vrabel's staff has expressed hope he can return this week, but nothing about his practice participation has been confirmed yet.

Watson is a better bet to play. He broke a rib on a 53-yard catch against Carolina, went to the hospital and returned to the game after a CT scan showed no internal bleeding, finishing with eight catches for 113 yards. Packers passing game coordinator Jason Vrable said this week that Watson is sore but doing great, and the team has not given a recovery timetable or ruled him out.

Fantasy outlook: Packers

Love is a locked-in QB1. He threw for 288 yards and three scores against the Panthers, and he arrives with 10 days of rest, a real edge for a visiting quarterback in a late-afternoon road game.

Watson is a WR2 if active. Rib injuries are about pain management, and he showed against Carolina that he can play through it. If he sits, Matthew Golden moves into the clear top receiver role, and Savion Williams, Bo Melton and J. Michael Sturdivant would split the extra snaps, none of them strong enough to start.

Josh Jacobs remains an RB1 on touchdown equity alone. He scored twice on Thursday, on a short catch and a 1-yard run, but managed only 39 yards on 21 carries against the league's worst-ranked run defense. That inefficiency is a warning sign, but goal-line work in a high-scoring offense keeps his weekly floor intact.

Fantasy outlook: Patriots

Maye was efficient in Miami, completing 16 of 20 passes for 199 yards with two touchdown passes and a rushing score as New England erased a 13-3 halftime deficit. He has stayed a QB1 even with a depleted receiver room, largely because his rushing gives him a floor. Through seven games he had thrown for 1,784 yards with 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

If Brown plays, he is a WR2 with upside against a Green Bay secondary that will be tested deep. If he does not, the targets spread out again. Against Miami, DeMario Douglas caught three passes for 76 yards and a 48-yard touchdown and Kyle Williams added a 43-yard score, but both are boom-or-bust plays rather than weekly starters. Romeo Doubs also missed last week, and his status should be checked on Friday.

The backfield depends on Henderson. Rhamondre Stevenson handled 19 carries for 82 yards in Miami and is an RB2 if Henderson sits. If Henderson returns, the work likely splits, which drops both into the flex tier.

Betting angle

This is a near pick'em between two teams with identical records and very different trends. Green Bay has the better quarterback form and the rest advantage, while New England has the home field and a team that just showed it can win a game it trailed by 10 at halftime.

The total in the high 40s reflects both quarterbacks' form. If Brown and Henry are active, the over has a clear path, since both offenses push the ball. If Brown and Henry are out, New England's offense narrows toward Stevenson and short throws, and the under becomes the more logical side. Bettors who like the over should wait for Friday's report rather than lock it in now.

The Verdexed model's pick for this game, and the full Week 9 slate, are on /nfl/predictions and /blog/nfl-week-9-picks-2026.

What it means

This game is a measuring stick for both teams. A Packers win on the road would cement Love as the early MVP front-runner and keep Green Bay in the NFC's top tier. A Patriots win would put New England two games over .500 with a quarterback who keeps producing through injuries. For fantasy managers, Love and Jacobs are starts, Watson is a start if active, and every Patriots receiver call should wait for Brown's final status.
