  • Gomez (2-4) allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk while recording just one out, taking the loss and a blown save in a 5-4 extra-inning loss to the Angels on Thursday.

After going nearly all year without blowing a save chance, Gomez has done just that in back-to-back appearances. He's allowed seven runs (six earned) over six innings in September to stumble late in the campaign. Gomez is at a 4.22 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 61:37 K:BB with 22 saves in 24 chances and six holds over 64 innings. Given that the Twins are fading out of playoff contention, it's unlikely Gomez will lose many meaningful opportunities over the last week-plus of the season. That said, he is unlikely to be available Friday after pitching three consecutive days, which may have played a role in his blown saves.

  • Gomez was charged with his first blown save of the season in Wednesday's 5-4 extra-innings win over the Yankees, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning. He struck out two.

The unlikely closer, who was picked up by Minnesota after being DFA'd by Tampa Bay in early May, made it to the final two weeks of the regular season without blowing a save chance, but Gomez couldn't protect a 2-0 lead in the ninth inning Wednesday. He allowed a couple singles before Anthony Volpe tied it up with a two-out double, and after walking another batter the right-hander was replaced by Kody Funderburk. Gomez has been tagged for multiple runs in three of his last eight appearances, stumbling to an 11.05 ERA, 2.32 WHIP and 9:7 K:BB in 7.1 innings over that stretch as his luck has finally begun to run out down the stretch.

  • Gomez (2-3) took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits and two walks over one-third of an inning Friday against the Cleveland. He didn't record a single strikeout.

Gomez entered the game in the top of the ninth inning but was largely ineffective, throwing just 12 of his 21 pitches for strikes and quickly running into trouble. He walked Bazzana before Angel Martinez doubled, and then Gomez uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Bazzana to score the go-ahead run. Brayan Rocchio followed with a two-run double that stretched Cleveland's advantage to three, and Gomez was removed after retiring just one of the five batters he faced. Gomez saw his run of four consecutive scoreless outings come to an end, and while he's posted seven scoreless appearances over his last nine, he's given up seven runs in that span. One subpar outing won't remove Gomez from his closing duties, however, especially since he's gone 22-for-22 in save chances in 2026 while posting a 3.92 ERA through 59 appearances in 2026.

  • Gomez struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Tuesday to record his 22nd save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Tigers.

The 26-year-old remains perfect in converting save chances this season as an unlikely savior for a shaky Twins bullpen. Since the All-Star break, Gomez has pocketed 11 saves and a win in 18 innings with a 3.50 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 19:13 K:BB.

  • Gomez struck out one in a clean ninth inning to earn the save Saturday against the White Sox.

Gomez made quick work of the White Sox on Saturday, landing six of his seven pitches for strikes. After being designated for assignment by the Rays earlier this season, the right-hander has given the Twins stability at closer. He's successfully converted each of his 20 saves for Minnesota, posting a 2.49 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 43:23 K:BB across 43.1 innings with his new club.

  • Gomez struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday to record his 20th save of the season in a 6-4 win over Atlanta.

The right-hander remains perfect on the season in converting save chances as well, going 19-for-19 as the Twins' closer -- not bad for a pitcher cut loose by the Rays in early May after posting a 6.23 ERA in his first 17.1 innings of the year. Since the All-Star break, Gomez has delivered a 2.13 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 14:9 K:BB over 12.2 innings and 14 appearances.
