  • Garcia (elbow/neck/biceps) underwent thoracic outlet surgery Thursday and will miss the rest of the season, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The right-hander was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome in early August, but it wasn't previously known whether he would require surgery. Garcia was pulled from a minor-league rehab assignment on three different occasions this year, and he'll end up not pitching at the big-league level in 2026. He turned 36 years old last week and will become a free agent after the season. Even if Garcia is physically capable of returning to the mound in 2027, he may not generate significant interest in free agency at this stage of his career while coming off major surgery and a lost season.

  • Garcia (elbow/neck/biceps) has been diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome and is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 season, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.

Garcia will undergo further testing to decide if he needs surgery, but manager John Schneider said Garcia's season is likely over. The right-hander has pitched in just one big-league game since May 22 of last season, and he was recently pulled off his minor-league rehab assignment due to ongoing arm issues. Garcia turns 36 years old later this month.

  • Garcia (elbow/neck/biceps) has been pulled off his rehab assignment and will be examined by a doctor for possible thoracic outlet syndrome, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

It's the third time this season that Garcia has had to be yanked off his rehab assignment, as he continues to deal with nerve issues related to his biceps and neck. Garcia has not made an appearance for the Blue Jays in 2026 and is slated to reach free agency after the season.

  • Garcia (elbow) will embark on a rehab assignment with Single-A Dunedin on Saturday, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

Garcia has been pulled from two previous rehab assignments due to nerve issues related to his biceps and neck. The veteran right-hander is ready to restart his rehab assignment and is slated to pitch one inning for Dunedin on Saturday. Garcia has been sidelined since early July of 2025 due to a right elbow injury and will likely need multiple minor-league outings before being cleared to return to the majors.

  • Garcia (elbow/neck/biceps) will throw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports.

If that goes well, Garcia will be cleared to resume a rehab assignment. The veteran reliever had surgery last September to remove scar tissue around his right elbow, and he's had to be pulled off rehab assignments twice because of nerve problems related to his biceps and neck. Once he's cleared to re-start a rehab assignment, Garcia will need multiple outings before rejoining the Blue Jays' bullpen.

  • Garcia (elbow/neck/biceps) was cleared to throw a bullpen session late last week, MLB.com reports.

Garcia has taken the next step forward in his throwing progression and looks like he could be ready to resume facing hitters shortly after the All-Star break. The veteran righty opened the season on the injured list while completing his recovery from surgery last September to remove scar tissue around his right elbow, and he's since been pulled off rehab assignments on two occasions due to elbow soreness and nerve symptoms related to his biceps and neck. Once he's cleared to head back out on a rehab assignment, Garcia will likely require several appearances before the Blue Jays bring him back from the shelf.
