Latest news

  • Rogers worked a scoreless eighth inning Thursday to record his 30th hold of the season in a 6-3 win over the Guardians. He didn't walk or strike out a batter.

The veteran reliever hit Brayan Rocchio with a pitch, but it was otherwise an efficient appearance from Rogers, who needed just nine pitches (six strikes) to protect a 5-3 lead before the Blue Jays tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth. Rogers has reached 30 holds for a fourth straight season and the fifth time in his career, and he's got a strong chance of topping the career high of 33 he set with the Giants in 2024.

  • Rogers recorded his fourth save of the season in Friday's 5-4 win over the Phillies, giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit and three walks in the ninth inning. He didn't strike out a batter.

With Louis Varland unavailable after working the prior two days, Rogers got the call in the ninth to protect a 5-2 lead and very nearly blew it. The submarining right-hander loaded the bases with nobody out on two walks and a catcher's interference call, but after an RBI grounder from Trea Turner and an infield single by Bryce Harper, Rogers was able to escape the jam on a couple strong defensive plays -- including one of his own, when he covered first base to get the final out. It's just the second time in 15 appearances since June 27 that Rogers has been tagged for any runs at all, and on the season he sports a 1.73 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 27:17 K:BB through 52 innings with one win and 23 holds in addition to his saves.

  • Rogers picked up the save Monday against the Astros. He did not record a strikeout over a perfect inning.

With Louis Varland presumably unavailable, Rogers was called upon to pitch the ninth inning and retired the side in order to pick up his third save. The soft-tossing right-hander has been impressively reliable as a setup man this year, posting a 1.62 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 27:14 K:BB while recording 23 holds across 50 innings.

  • Rogers struck out one in a perfect seventh inning Monday to record his 22nd hold of the season in a win over the Nationals.

With Toronto nursing a 3-2 lead, Rogers got the call against Washington's 9-1-2 hitters and got the job done on just eight pitches (all strikes), fanning James Wood along the way. Rogers hasn't allowed a run since June 23, reeling off 10 straight scoreless appearances and posting a 0.50 WHIP and 7:1 K:BB in 10 innings with five holds.

  • Rogers gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits in one inning of relief Tuesday to take his third blown save of the season in an extra-innings loss to the Astros.

With Louis Varland getting some rest after throwing 40 pitches while working two of the prior three days, manager John Schneider had to look to other high-leverage options in a close game. Jeff Hoffman got the final two outs in the eighth inning with the score tied 4-4, and after the Blue Jays took a two-run lead in the bottom of that frame, Rogers got the call in the top of the ninth. The veteran right-hander couldn't close the door, giving up back-to-back singles to Jose Altuve and Yordan Alvarez to begin the inning and watching both eventually come around to score on a catcher's interference call and a sacrifice fly. The earned run was the first on Rogers' ledger since May 25, although he did get tagged for five unearned runs against the Cubs on June 19. On the season, he sports a 1.91 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 20:12 K:BB over 37.2 innings with one win, two saves and 17 holds, and he may be due for some rest of his own -- only teammates Mason Fluharty (42 appearances) and Braydon Fisher (40) have appeared in more games this season than Rogers.
