• Roby (elbow) will pitch in the Arizona Fall League.

Roby is coming back from Tommy John surgery, which he had in July 2025. While he will not make it back before the end of the minor-league season, the right-hander will make up for lost innings in the AFL. Roby is likely to open the 2027 season in the Triple-A Memphis rotation, and he'll be a candidate to make some starts for the Cardinals if things go well.

• Cardinals president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom said Friday that Roby (elbow) could be ready to face hitters in the coming days, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Roby had seemed like a long shot to pitch this season after he underwent Tommy John surgery in late July of last year. However, he's progressed well in his rehab and is "getting closer and closer" to pitching in a game, per Bloom. The 24-year-old could make a few late-season appearances and is a candidate to be assigned to the Arizona Fall League and/or winter ball as he looks to make up for lost innings.

• The Cardinals optioned Roby (elbow) to Triple-A Memphis on Monday.

Roby is likely to miss most, if not all, of the 2026 season after he underwent Tommy John surgery July 25 of last year. Memphis will likely place Roby on the 60-day or full-season injured list prior to its March 27 opener.

• Roby underwent Tommy John surgery Friday, Katie Woo and Keith Law of The Athletic report.

Roby had landed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Memphis two weeks ago with an undisclosed injury, and as it turns out, he needed surgery on his pitching elbow that will likely keep him sidelined until the 2027 season. The righty had pitched well this season between Double-A Springfield and Memphis before getting hurt, collecting a 3.10 ERA and 87:19 K:BB over 78.1 innings covering 16 starts.

• Triple-A Memphis placed Roby on the 7-day injured list Monday due to an unspecified injury.

Roby has been lights out lately at Memphis, allowing just two earned runs with a 21:5 K:BB over 21 innings covering his last four starts. The Cardinals haven't provided word on the nature of his latest health concern, but Roby's injury history is lengthy, and his issues have often involved his pitching shoulder. Added to the Cardinals' 40-man roster over the offseason, Roby has posted a 3.10 ERA and 87:19 K:BB across 78.1 frames between Double-A Springfield and Memphis in 2025.
