Latest news

  • Clarke allowed one run on three hits and a hit batsman over two-thirds of an inning in a no-decision versus the Padres on Saturday. He didn't record a strikeout or a walk.

Clarke ended up struggling as an opener for the bullpen game, though he was far from alone in laboring on the mound. The Padres put up at least one run in five of the first six innings, and the back-and-forth nature of the game kept Clarke from being on the hook for the loss. While he has a strong 2.96 ERA over 73 innings this season, he's surrendered seven runs (six earned) over his last six innings to stumble to the finish line.

  • Clarke will serve as the opening pitcher in Saturday's game against the Padres, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports.

Clarke gave up two earned runs in one inning during his last outing Thursday, but the D-backs will send him to the mound to begin Saturday's game as they attempt to sneak into the final wild-card spot in the National League. He'll likely remain on the bump for an inning or two before coming out of the game.

  • Clarke will serve as the Diamondbacks' opening pitcher in Wednesday's contest against the Phillies.

Clarke, who holds a 2.60 ERA and 37:11 K:BB over 62.1 innings this season, will be making his first big-league start since 2023. He'll likely cover the opening frame or two before giving way to right-hander Jose Cabrera, who is expected to absorb most of the innings as a bulk reliever.

  • Arizona reinstated Clarke from the family medical emergency list Sunday.

Clarke missed three days while tending to a personal matter. He's now back in the Diamondbacks' bullpen, and lefty reliever Philip Abner was optioned to Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move.

  • Manager Torey Lovullo revealed that Clarke is expected to return from the bereavement list Sunday versus the Nationals, Jose M. Romero of The Arizona Republic reports.

With the right-hander returning Sunday, he will have spent the minimum three games on the bereavement list. Kade Strowd or Philip Abner are likely candidates to be sent down to make room for Clarke since they both joined the big club Thursday.

  • The Diamondbacks placed Clarke on the bereavement list Thursday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.

Clarke will miss between three and seven games while he tends to personal matters. With Brandon Pfaadt also on the move to Triple-A Reno, Kade Strowd and Philip Abner will come up from the minors to round out Arizona's bullpen.
