San Diego recalled Song from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.
Song will rejoin the big-league club just six days after being optioned to El Paso. In 134 plate appearances in the majors, the 29-year-old is slashing .202/.305/.263 with one homer, 15 RBI and 12 stolen bases this season. The Padres sent Gavin Sheets (foot) to the injured list to open a slot on the active roster for Song. He will man the hot corner and bat ninth Sunday against Tampa Bay.

The Padres optioned Song to Triple-A El Paso on Monday.
The move corresponds with the Padres selecting Dustin Harris' contract from El Paso. Song has been with the big club since early May as a utility infielder and has a .202/.305/.263 slash line with 12 steals (in 16 attempts), one home run and 15 RBI over 134 plate appearances. He should operate as an everyday starter in Triple-A and could return to the majors should the Padres require infield depth.

Song went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBI in a 19-2 victory against Kansas City on Sunday.
Song didn't start the game, but he was called upon to pinch hit for Luis Campusano with the Padres up 8-2 in the eighth inning. The rookie singled in that plate appearance, then doubled and singled in the ninth as San Diego put up 11 runs over the final two frames. Song is slashing a healthy .281/.361/.438 with a home run, seven RBI, eight runs, five stolen bases and a 4:3 BB:K through 12 contests in July, but he's been losing playing time of late -- he's started just twice over the Padres' past six contests.

Song isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against Kansas City.
Song went 2-for-18 across his final six games before the All-Star break, and he'll now miss out on the starting nine for a second consecutive game to begin the second half. Manny Machado will get another start at third base as a result, while Miguel Andujar works as the DH.

Song isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against the Royals.
Song will retreat to the bench to begin the first game of San Diego's second-half schedule after going 2-for-18 with three walks, four RBI and three runs in his final six games before the All-Star break. Manny Machado will cover the hot corner with Song on the bench, opening up the DH spot for Miguel Andujar.

Song went 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Saturday's 8-7 win over the Blue Jays.
Song was in the lineup at third base for this contest while Manny Machado rested his legs as the designated hitter. Over nine games in July, Song has gone 6-for-27 (.222 average) with five steals and two extra-base hits. Song has now started in six of the Padres' last seven games and looks like he'll get a chance to play on a near-everyday basis while shifting between second base and third base.
