Latest news

  • Imanaga allowed just one run on four hits across five innings but did not factor into the decision in Tuesday's 8-2, extra-innings loss to the Marlins. He struck out seven and didn't issue any walks.

The lefty was sharp again Tuesday, though he needed 91 pitches to complete five frames, which likely prevented him from going longer into the game. Over his last four appearances, Imanaga has a sparkling 1.96 ERA with 23 strikeouts across 23 innings, and he's lowered his overall ERA from 4.01 to 3.74 in the process. He's not currently slated to take the mound again during the 2026 regular season, with the Cubs instead turning their attention to slotting Imanaga in near the top of their postseason rotation, assuming they lock up their spot soon. It's quite possible that the southpaw even serves as a Game 1 starter.

  • Imanaga (11-10) earned the win against Atlanta on Wednesday, allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight across six innings. He did not issue a walk.

The Cubs' batters provided plenty of offense for Imanaga, and the 33-year-old southpaw held up his end of the bargain by keeping Atlanta off the board until a Matt Olson RBI groundout in the sixth. It was the sixth time this season that Imanaga struck out at least eight batters, bringing him up to 164 punchouts on the year and 10 shy of matching his total from the 2024 campaign. He'll take a 3.80 ERA and 1.10 WHIP over 168.1 innings into his next start, tentatively slated for next week at home against the Marlins in what projects to be Imanaga's final outing of the regular season.

  • Imanaga (10-10) picked up the win in Friday's 12-2 rout over the Pirates, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out four.

The southpaw delivered his 13th quality start of the season on 100 pitches (60 strikes). Imanaga has put together an effective second half, and over 10 starts since the All-Star break he's produced a 5-2 record with a 3.31 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 51:10 K:BB through 54.1 innings. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against Atlanta.

  • Imanaga (9-10) earned the win against the Marlins on Friday, allowing one run on three hits and no walks with four strikeouts over six innings.

Imanaga cruised through six scoreless innings and was charged with a run in the seventh after departing following a leadoff single. He filled the zone with 64 strikes on 94 pitches while generating a whopping 22 whiffs, including 17 with his splitter. It's been an up-and-down campaign for the 33-year-old, but he's posted a 3.35 ERA with five quality starts in nine outings since the All-Star break. He'll take a 3.91 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 152:35 K:BB across 156.1 innings this season into a road matchup with the Brewers next week.

In five August starts, the southpaw posted a 5.96 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 29:6 K:BB across 22.2 innings. The 32-year-old will take a 4.01 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 148:35 K:BB across 150.1 innings (27 starts) into his next outing, tentatively scheduled for Friday against the Marlins.

  • Imanaga did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits, two walks and a hit-by-pitch over two-plus innings against the Mariners. He struck out four.

The Cubs offense turned the contest into a laugher, but Imanaga struggled on the mound, throwing 72 pitches (41 strikes) before being pulled without recording an out in the third inning. In four August starts, the southpaw has pitched to a 4.58 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 25:5 K:BB across 17.2 frames. Overall, the 32-year-old owns an 8-9 record with a 3.78 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 144:34 K:BB in 145.1 innings (26 starts). Imanaga is tentatively scheduled to pitch Saturday against the Reds.
