Latest news

  • Rolison retired the only batter he faced in the ninth inning to earn the save in Saturday's 5-2 over the Reds. He did not record a strikeout.

Rolison was summoned to face lefty JJ Bleday with a runner on first and two outs and got him to pop out to end the contest. The 29-year-old southpaw has now held opponents scoreless in seven of his past eight appearances, and he's converted both of his two save chances during that stretch. On the year, he's tallied three saves and seven holds to go along with a 2.97 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 51:27 K:BB across 60.2 innings.

  • Rolison (9-1) worked around a hit to toss 1.2 scoreless innings of relief and earn the win in Saturday's 4-3 victory over the Pirates.

Rolison was the third Chicago pitcher to enter the game, following starter Clay Holmes and Jacob Webb. The lefty tossed his fifth consecutive scoreless outing, which lowered his season ERA to 2.76, and extended his strong run of scooping up wins out of the bullpen. Rolison's nine wins are tied for third among all MLB relievers.

  • Rolison pitched a clean ninth inning with no strikeouts to record the save in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Brewers.

With Jacob Webb taking a comebacker off his forearm Wednesday, the Cubs needed to go in a different direction to close out Thursday's game, and Rolison was up to the task. Webb is experiencing soreness but will avoid a stint on the injured list, so Rolison's time as Chicago's closer may be short lived, though it's possible Webb misses a few more games. No matter what role he's been in this year, Rolison has been reliable with a 2.93 ERA and 49 strikeouts across 55.1 innings, and he now has two saves to his name as well.

  • Rolison (6-1) earned the win in relief Tuesday against the Dodgers after pitching a perfect inning, striking out one.

Rolison got the final out in the sixth inning and recorded two more outs in the seventh before being lifted. He didn't need too many pitches to do so, as he tossed 10 of his 14 pitches for strikes. The 29-year-old southpaw has been pitching well of late, allowing just one earned run across eight appearances and 9.2 innings since the All-Star break. He has a 10:3 K:BB in that span.

  • Rolison retired the only batter he faced to record the save in Tuesday's 9-7 win over the Padres.

The lefty Rolison was tapped for a matchup against Jackson Merrill to end the game. As he's done all season, the southpaw shut the door against a left-handed batter, and this time it earned him his first career MLB save. Rolison is limiting lefties to a .152 batting average, and he's recorded 17 strikeouts across 14.1 innings in those matchups. That's helped stake the reliever to a stellar 1.97 ERA overall this year. Rolison isn't Chicago's first option for saves at the moment, but he's quickly earning trust in the team's bullpen.

  • Rolison will work as the Cubs' opening pitcher Sunday versus Milwaukee, Bruce Levine of 670TheScore.com reports.

Rolison has one opening appearance so far this season, retiring all four batters he faced against the Giants on June 13. He's tossed fewer than two frames in each of his 10 outings so far in June, so the left-hander presumably won't work deep into Sunday's matchup. The Cubs haven't designated a bulk reliever to enter the game behind Rolison, though Bryse Wilson had recently been serving as a starter at Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Phillies organization before the Cubs scooped him up off waivers Wednesday.
