Latest news

  • Johnson allowed four runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out three over five innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Saturday.

Johnson allowed 12 runs over 27.2 innings over his five outings in September, a step back from his strong August but still a decent way to wrap up the campaign. He closes out at a 5-9 record, 5.04 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 79:43 K:BB through 100 innings over 22 games (19 starts). Johnson's work late in the season should keep him in the mix for a spot in the rotation moving forward.

  • Johnson (5-9) took the loss Sunday, allowing three runs on seven hits, no walks and a hit-by-pitch over 4.2 innings against the Twins. He struck out six.

Johnson's stellar run of late hit a speed bump Sunday, as he was unable to complete five frames in the loss. The young right-hander has posted a 2.48 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 33:12 K:BB over 40 innings in his past seven starts. Johnson owns a 4.93 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 76:39 K:BB in 95 innings (21 appearances) and is lined up to make his final start of the season Saturday against the Mariners.

  • Johnson (5-8) allowed one run on six hits and a hit batsman while striking out seven and walking none over six innings to earn the win over the Mariners on Tuesday.

This was Johnson's fourth quality start in his last five outings, and he's come away with a win in three of those games. The 24-year-old struggled at times during his early stints in the majors, but he's turned the corner with just 10 runs allowed over 44.1 innings since the start of August. Overall, Johnson sports a 4.88 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 70:39 K:BB through 90.1 innings over 20 games (17 starts) this year. He's projected to make his next start at home versus the Twins.

  • Johnson (4-8) notched the win against the Red Sox on Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk in six innings. He struck out five.

Johnson overcame a pair of home runs to log a quality start Wednesday. The 24-year-old right-hander is building a compelling case to be part of the Angels' future pitching plans -- he's posted either a quality start or given up two runs or fewer in all seven of his starts since being recalled from the minor leagues in early August. He'll look to further improve a 5.12 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 63:39 K:BB over 84.1 innings this year in his next scheduled outing versus the Mariners.
