Bergert underwent surgery Wednesday to repair the UCL in his right elbow.
Bergert was removed from his start at Triple-A Omaha on April 7 due to an elbow injury, and after receiving a second opinion, he ultimately decided to go under the knife to address the issue. The Royals didn't give a timeline for the right-hander's return, but he'll almost certainly miss the rest of the 2026 campaign.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Friday that Bergert will receive a second opinion on the right elbow injury he sustained during his most recent start with Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
The Royals are currently terming Bergert's injury as right elbow discomfort, but the fact that he's receiving a second opinion on the matter suggests that surgery could be on the table for the 26-year-old righty. Omaha placed Bergert on its 7-day injured list Friday.

Royals manager Matt Quatraro said Thursday that Berget was removed from his last start at Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday because of right elbow discomfort, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.
Bergert has traveled to Kansas City to be evaluated by the Royals' medical staff, and more should be known about his prognosis following that visit. The right-hander missed out on a spot in the Royals' Opening Day rotation and has collected a 2.79 ERA and 10:5 K:BB over his first 9.2 innings at Omaha.

The Royals optioned Bergert to Triple-A Omaha on Tuesday.
Bergert came into camp with a chance to win a spot in Kansas City's rotation, but he struggled during spring play, posting a 6.52 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB over 9.2 innings spanning four starts. His biggest issue was the long ball, as he allowed five homers. Bergert should get a chance to get back on the right track with Omaha and will likely be a candidate to be called up should the Royals need a rotation replacement at some point during the campaign.

Bergert allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk over 3.2 innings in Saturday's Cactus League loss to the Athletics. He struck out four.
Bergert struggled to find a rhythm, allowing runs in each of his four frames and serving up four homers, three of them by Shea Langeliers. Prior to Saturday's outing, the right-hander had allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out four across six innings in his first three spring appearances. While this outing wasn't stellar, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports that the Royals are considering deploying a six-man rotation to open the regular season, which increases Bergert's chances of being part of the starting staff, with Stephen Kolek (oblique) and Bailey Falter also in the mix.

Bergert (elbow) allowed a hit and a walk with no strikeouts across one scoreless inning in Saturday's Cactus League loss to San Diego.
Bergert made his spring debut Saturday, allowing a leadoff double and a two-out walk before retiring the side without damage in his lone inning of work. The right-hander showed promise as a rookie in 2025 before finishing the season on the injured list due to a right elbow strain, posting a 3.66 ERA and 1.26 WHIP across 19 appearances (15 starts) between San Diego and Kansas City. Bergert will compete for a spot in the Royals' deep rotation, with Noah Cameron, Stephen Kolek and Bailey Falter also in the mix.
