  • The Astros optioned Blanco to the minors Sunday.

The move corresponds with Raynel Delgado being recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land, and he will provide the Astros with depth in the infield for Sunday's regular-season finale. Blanco will end the regular season with a 6.68 ERA and 1.37 WHIP across 33.2 innings.

  • Blanco didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the White Sox. He allowed three hits and three walks while striking out three over four scoreless innings.

The Astros recalled Blanco from Triple-A Sugar Land to start Tuesday after rosters expanded to 28 players. Blanco has issued three walks in four of his six outings in 2026, so the lack of command and control remains an issue, but he at least delivered a scoreless outing -- a massive improvement considering he had given up at least three earned runs in each of his previous five appearances. Blanco lowered his ERA to 6.59 with this outing, and it remains to be seen whether he'll stay in the rotation for another turn.

  • The Astros recalled Blanco from Triple-A Sugar Land to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander is back in the majors Tuesday with rosters expanding to 28 players and will immediately step into Houston's rotation. Blanco has struggled to a 7.71 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 20:12 K:BB in 23.1 frames over his five appearances in the big leagues this season.

  • The Astros will recall Blanco from Triple-A Sugar Land to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander will make his return to the Astros after he had submitted a 7.71 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with 20 strikeouts across 23.1 innings in his five appearances (four starts) before he was demoted to Triple-A on Aug. 16. Blanco was roughed up for 10 earned runs in just 2.1 innings in his most recent start for Sugar Land, so fantasy managers can't stream him with much confidence Tuesday. He could be in line for just a spot start for the Astros while the team looks to build in a day of rest for all members of the rotation.

  • The Astros optioned Blanco to Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday.

The 32-year-old right-hander has struggled to return to form since making his 2026 debut for the Astros in late July after completing his recovery from his June 2025 Tommy John surgery with an internal brace. After posting a 6.98 ERA and 1.34 WHIP through his first four starts with Houston, Blanco was shifted to a relief role and was promptly roughed up for five earned runs on seven hits and one walk in four innings in his first appearance out of the bullpen in Saturday's 10-5 loss to the Mariners. The Astros recalled right-hander Miguel Ullola from Triple-A to take Blanco's spot in the bullpen.

  • Astros manager Joe Espada said that Blanco will be available out of the bullpen for Wednesday's game against the Giants, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Blanco has struggled to the tune of a 6.98 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 17:11 K:BB over 19.1 innings while starting in his first four appearances since coming off the 60-day injured list July 20. The Astros will have reliever Bryan King open Wednesday's game and presumably cover an inning or two, but it's unclear if Espada intends to use Blanco or Tatsuya Imai in bulk relief, or if both pitchers will be called upon to eat innings. If Blanco ends up going unused Wednesday, he could step back into the rotation at some point during this weekend's series versus the Mariners.
