  • The Mariners released Refsnyder on Tuesday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

With new acquisition Taylor Ward officially reporting for duty Tuesday, Refsnyder has been jettisoned off the active roster. He was signed to a one-year, $6.25 million contract over the offseason due to his proficiency versus left-handed pitching, but the righty-swinging Refsnyder managed a lowly .506 OPS against lefties (and a .255 OPS versus righties). The Mariners are responsible for what remains of Refsnyder's contract.

  • Refsnyder went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a double in Tuesday's 7-6 win over the Dodgers.

Those two knocks accounted for two of his five extra-base hits all season. Refsnyder missed the last month due to knee inflammation, but he wasn't hitting particularly well before his absence. The outfielder is also often limited to short-side platoon work, and that's unlikely to change unless he forces the issue with his bat. He's hitting .147 with a .479 OPS, four homers, 11 RBI, nine runs scored and one double over 123 plate appearances.

  • The Mariners reinstated Refsnyder (knee) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

Refsnyder is returning from right knee inflammation that has kept him out since the end of June. During his rehab assignment, he went 6-for-29 with a home run, three RBI and three walks. The 35-year-old, who typically platoons against lefties, is starting against Dodgers southpaw Justin Wrobleski on Tuesday. In a corresponding move, the Mariners designated Buddy Kennedy for assignment.

  • Refsnyder (knee) will embark on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, Tim Booth of The Seattle Times reports.

Refsnyder landed on the 10-day IL in late June due to right knee inflammation. The veteran outfielder has progressed enough in his recovery to go on a rehab assignment, which could have him back in the majors by late July or early August. Refsnyder has struggled at the plate this season, posting a .422 OPS with three home runs and nine RBI across 119 plate appearances.

  • The Mariners placed Refsnyder (knees) on the 10-day injured list Monday, Adam Jude of The Seattle Times reports.

Refsnyder has gone 1-for-17 over his last seven games, and his poor performance at the plate may have been partially due to injuries to both of his knees. A minimum stint on the IL would have the veteran outfielder in line to return to the majors July 9, though it's unclear whether he'll be back in action before the All-Star break. Buddy Kennedy -- whom the Mariners acquired from the Giants on Sunday -- will take Refsnyder's spot on the 26-man active roster.

  • Refsnyder went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 9-1 win over the A's.

Refsnyder put the Mariners ahead early with a two-out, three-run blast off Jeffrey Springs in the first inning, his third homer this year. Refsnyder has logged hits in back-to-back games on the heels of a 1-for-27 slump that spanned his previous 13 contests. Overall, the veteran outfielder is slashing .122/.200/.243 with eight RBI and seven runs scored across 85 plate appearances while manning the short side of a platoon with Luke Raley and Dominic Canzone.
