  • Ryan (0-1) took the loss against the Pirates on Sunday, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 1.1 innings.

Ryan allowed a leadoff homer and struggled overall, throwing just 21 of 39 pitches for strikes with four whiffs. The 28-year-old yielded two earned runs over 4.1 innings in a two-start stint with the Tigers and posted a 4.39 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 47:9 K:BB across 41 Triple-A frames this season. He was a prized asset in the Tarik Skubal trade with the Dodgers and should factor into the Tigers' rotation plans in 2027.

  • Ryan is slated to start Sunday's game against the Pirates at Comerica Park, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Ryan will get a second turn through the rotation to close out the season. After getting called up form Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Ryan struck out three batters over three shutout frames in a no-decision against the Nationals. He tossed 43 pitches in that outing and will once again be operating with a restricted workload Sunday, making him a risky option for fantasy managers streaming him in the hopes of scooping up a win. Keider Montero or Jack Flaherty (forearm) could end up piggybacking Ryan in the season finale.

  • Ryan did not factor into the decision Monday, allowing two hits and a walk over three scoreless innings against the Nationals. He struck out three.

Ryan looked strong in his Tigers debut and first big-league appearance since August 2024, keeping the Nationals off the scoreboard before departing at 43 pitches (26 strikes). The shortened workload doesn't come as much of a surprise given that the 28-year-old logged just 4.2 frames over two starts with Triple-A Toledo before being recalled. In five career starts in the majors, Ryan has posted a stellar 1.16 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 21:10 K:BB across 23.1 innings. The right-hander is tentatively lined up to make one more start to close the regular season Sunday against the Pirates.

  • The Tigers recalled Ryan from Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Ryan will make his Tigers debut Monday with a start against the Nationals, though he will be limited after topping out at 2.2 innings and 39 pitches over two starts at Triple-A Toledo upon returning from the 7-day injured list. Acquired from the Dodgers on Aug. 2, Ryan missed all of 2025 due to Tommy John surgery and was shelved for nearly three months by a hamstring injury in 2026. The 28-year-old has flashed electric stuff when on the bump, however, and logged a 1.33 ERA and 18:9 K:BB over 20.1 frames in four starts for Los Angeles in 2024. Ryan is in line for a second start this week on Sunday versus the Pirates, though his workload will be limited in that outing as well.

  • The Tigers will call up Ryan from Triple-A Toledo to start Monday's game against the Nationals, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander made four appearances for the Dodgers in 2024 and is now set to make his Tigers debut after being acquired at the trade deadline this summer. Ryan was sidelined nearly three months by a hamstring injury but was recently given a clean bill of health and made two starts for Toledo. The 28-year-old topped out at 2.2 frames in those outings and should have a limited workload again Monday, with Keider Montero expected to piggyback him.

  • Ryan (hamstring) will start Wednesday at Triple-A Toledo, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

It will be Ryan's organizational debut after he was acquired from the Dodgers in the Tarik Skubal trade last month. The 28-year-old has made just eight starts this season, registering a 4.46 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 43:8 K:BB across 36.1 innings with Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to being dealt to the Tigers. Ryan figures to be a member of Detroit's rotation next season but could debut with the big club later this month.
