Latest news

  • Suarez (8-5) took the loss Thursday against Cleveland, striking out five while allowing one run on three hits and one walk in five innings.

The lone blemish came in the second inning, when Angel Martinez took Suarez yard for a solo homer. The southpaw still looked sharp in what was effectively a tune-up start ahead of the postseason, and he's now worked at least five innings while yielding fewer than two runs in four straight outings. His regular season ends with a strong 3.22 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 140:46 K:BB over 148.1 innings in his debut season with the Red Sox.

  • Suarez (8-4) earned the win against the Rays on Friday, allowing one run on three hits and five walks while striking out five across 5.2 innings.

The five free passes were the most of Suarez's career, but the 31-year-old southpaw limited the damage to just one run during Friday's outing, falling one out short from the quality start. He's given up only two earned runs over his last three outings spanning 19.2 innings, which has him at a 3.27 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 143.1 innings this season. Suarez is slated to face the Guardians at home next week in what figures to be his last start of the regular season.

  • Suarez (7-4) earned the win against the Royals on Saturday, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with eight strikeouts over seven innings.

Suarez allowed a solo homer in the sixth frame but was otherwise dominant, throwing 69 of 96 pitches for strikes with 14 whiffs. After surrendering a season-high six runs Aug. 30, the southpaw has rebounded in a big way with back-to-back seven-inning victories. He'll carry a 3.33 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 130:40 K:BB across 137.2 innings this season into a road matchup with the Rays next weekend.

  • Suarez (6-4) earned the win against the Orioles on Friday, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out three across seven scoreless innings.

Friday was a nice bounce-back performance from Suarez after his last outing against the Yankees on Sunday, when he allowed six runs over 5.1 innings in a loss. The veteran southpaw induced only three whiffs, but he also recorded 10 groundouts while allowing one baserunner in five of his seven frames, needing only 91 pitches (61 strikes) to complete seven scoreless. This was Suarez's first scoreless start of six or more innings since June 19 against the Mariners. His next start is lined up for next week at home against the Angels.

  • Suarez (5-4) took the loss Sunday against the Yankees, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out two.

Suarez held the Yankees off the board through four innings Sunday before things fell apart with one out in the fifth. The southpaw gave up a two-run single to Paul Goldschmidt before Heliot Ramos extended the lead to 5-0 with a three-run blast. Suarez has been inconsistent since returning from the IL in late July -- he's now given up 11 runs over 15.2 innings in his last three outings. His ERA now sits at 3.64 on the season with a 1.24 WHIP and 119:39 K:BB across 24 starts (123.2 innings). Suarez will look to bounce back his next time out, tentatively scheduled to come on the road against the Orioles.

  • Suarez didn't factor into the decision against the Marlins on Monday, allowing one run on four hits and four walks in five innings. He struck out four.

Suarez exhibited an uncharacteristic lack of control, issuing a season-worst four free passes, but he was still able to hold Miami in check Monday. The 30-year-old left-hander is still searching for a rhythm since coming off the injured list July 26 with a groin strain, logging a 4.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 20:11 K:BB over his last six starts (27 frames). Suarez, who still has a strong 3.35 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 117:37 K:BB across 118.1 innings in 2026, has a tough road matchup against the division-rival Yankees on tap for this weekend.
